New Law on Traffic Violation Penalty

By lovinni

I read from the previous post that traffic department has a new rule on violation penalty. Only 60 days grace period is given to pay the penalty amount indicated and after 61 days a 1QR will be added per day until the violation gets settled.

My question is when is this law effective. Im sure old violations will not be included. From the old procedure, violations are normally paid upon renewal of the vehicle registration.

thanks ohbee wan.. from the link my query has been answered. from the date of the article Oct 29, 2007, more or less this new rule has been effective.

i hope MOI website posts new laws to guide us. this site should be more comprehensive to guide the motorists.

@ lovinni, heres a link from Peninsula stating that the maximum allowed for a person to settle a fine is up to 60 days, if you exceed the 60 days period you have to pay 1QR per day.

http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=local_news&month=october2007&file=local_news2007102941444.xml

the problem with MOIs website is that they only translated the fines/penalties and not the content of the new law. hope this helps =D

@afaque, so let's get this straight, you are complaining because people who've broken the law and are given 2 months to pay or start paying get charged 1 riyal a day (so up to 31 QR a month) for NOT paying?

Don't break the law, don't pay anything.

thanks mila...i tried to check the MOI website for this new rule. but could not find it...they should post any new rule. coz my company usually pays the violation upon renewal. so they have to be aware for this. and i dont know if old violations more than 8 months ago will also be included...

seem surprised there Lovinni, do you think you violated any of the traffic law?

anyway just to make sure the Gov't. are encouraging everyone to avail of their Metrash, so you'll be updated thru your mobile phone if you have violated any of the traffic law.

it was since last year and you need to go to this site www.moi.gov.qa you can see the latest penalties for each violations there. moreover there are two types one that can be paid directly via fee and the other set is being referred to the court first.
