Moving to Qatar from UK finding accommodation
By urban_qatar •
Hi Guys
was wondering if I can get some advice and heads up. I will be moving to Qatar in 1/2nd May. I will be provided with hotel accommodation for a week and then need to find my own accommodation.
Initially I will be moving on however once I have settled I may be looking to move my family over if I feel it is feasible. I have a wife and two young children..7 and 4.
My work place is in the West Bay area, however I have been told old doha would be an ideal place to rent... I have not got a clue on distances and logistics of travel... can someone please advise..
much appreciated.
Al Dafna is a good area to consider - a relatively good compromise between the high rents/proximity of West Bay and lower rents/distance of Al Waab/Landmark. Commute to West Bay is pretty reasonable, about 10-25mins depending on traffic. I'm staying now in Al Dafna but am planning to move to join some friends, so am looking for someone to take over my room actually: http://www.qatarliving.com/node/462794
Old Doha, while bustling, may not be good if peace and quiet are what you want. Moreover, commute to west bay along the corniche can be a snarl.
Hi urban,
Welcome to Doha. I am a local property consultant from the UK. I would be happy to give you advice and find you the most appropriate property for your budget and family needs. E.mail me on [email protected] and I will get you something to suit you.
any apartment in westbay would be expensive. Try to look around at the villa compound around al waab.
It's all about your budget. I would strongly suggest getting a studio or one bedroom serviced apartment in the West Bay area for at least a month to sort things out. Worst thing is to make a quick decisions after a week without knowing the market. If you are bringing the family then you need to worry about schools and they all seem to be pretty far from West Bay. I've been told to expect about a 1 hour commute from Villagio Mall area to West Bay and that seems to be a popular compound area for families. Landmark Mall area might be a better compromise. If you're going to be solo, then a serviced apt. in the West Bay area is best as far as a commute goes and you'd have the amenities of the City Center Mall at your door step.
