Moving my aquarium company to Qatar

By JoeyV

Hello,

I'm Joey and i'm from Belgium . I'm owner of the company aqua solutions.

I have some question about moving my company to qatar.

A friend of mine is from Qatar. He is an expert about horses and often comes to belgium to buy horses for his costumers in Qatar.
When we where dining at a restaurant where i made a reeftank . He said that i have to go to Qatar to expand my business. I have my company for 7 years now and i know i'm almost unbeatable in my country with my service and product.
I always loved adventure , so he is going to help me to move my company to Qatar.

So i have some questions , maybe you can give me answers?

Are there good aquariumshops in Qatar.
Do they have good quality like whe have in Europe and not the chinese stuff?
Are there marine reef experts?
Are there distributors of corals ?
Are there company's like mine . Specialized in placing and maintaining reefaquariums?
Do you think there can be a market for me?

Does somebody have information for me how to move my company to Qatar. Are there special things i have to worry about?
Is it easy for somebody like me to live with people from another religion. Over here there are many islam people dicriminated by our people.

I dont speak arabic. But i live 2 months each year in Marokka to do business over there. Dont know Qatar is the same and do they accept people that doesnt speak your language ?

Thank you for reading this and i hope i have many tips and answers on my questions.

Thx,

Joey

I think there is a great possiblity to succeed. There are too many shopping centers in Doha but aquarium shop, not many. and the aquarium stuff there is expensive, if you could get a wide range stuff with acceptable quality and reasonable price, you will have a great market here.

Of course that you look into the market here in Doha personally will help you a lot.

(I am in led industry and I am planning to have a led aquarium light light business in Doha.)

Uh oh. . .I'm into live plants and I had NO IDEA that AquaArt would have them. I'm in trouble now. . .thanks, kevkoi (I think).

That sound you just heard was money being vacuumed out of my wallet!

I guess you haven't been to AquaArt on Salwa road if you think there are no corals/coral aquariums/coral aquarium expertise in Qatar?

I've travelled much of the middle east, Asia and Europe looking at aquarium and aquarium businesses, and I won't be kidding if I said Qatar has ONE shop that would rank in my top ten aquariums in the world!

Recently a UK based Aquarium Magazines also rated this aquarium shop in Qatar as a "Must see" on international Aquarium shop-hops!

Think very carefully about the move. The market here will be MUCH smaller than a 1.9 Million population would suggest.

I would try Dubai before Qatar, more offices and private houses.

DON'T just jump in on the word of one Qatari. That would be a very costly mistake.

Are there good aquariumshops in Qatar?

Yup, try in Mathar qadim street, NATURE WORLD.

Do they have good quality like whe have in Europe and not the chinese stuff?

For stony Coral (sps) only not avable here.

Are there marine reef experts?

Yup, try to visit the store, and you will find some people might have share the experience about reef.

Are there distributors of corals ?

In natrure world, they provided all the equipment for reef, also the trace elements.

Are there company's like mine . Specialized in placing and maintaining reefaquariums?

Yup

I have been trying to get a sump design but so far have failed.

before you design, better decided what kind of SUMP that you will use, bilogycal or chemical. Seemingly you missplace the sequence the gears of the SUMP.

Never seen any marine aquarium shop before!

Try NATURE WORLD, I've seen anemone (5 pcs) and blue ring octopus, lion fish, clown, damsel, etc and the very interesting is,....pipe fish. They NEW ARRIVAL fishes.

Thanks

at last there is an aquarium company moving here...huh...great!!!

I miss my hobby so much that made me want to leave qatar...I had been keeping discus fish, shrimps, water plants and not to forget marine fishes, anemonies, corals, etc. until I move to qatar.

But the aquarium shops only sell "hardcore" fishes like goldfish, angelfish, deformed discus, etc. Never seen any marine aquarium shop before!

I am sure if your company can provide good sample display of marine aquariums will attract customers.

As for temperature (during hot summer season), mostly all houses are air-conditioned so not to worry so much of marine setup....

Good luck to you...

there are experts, however they don't work in Aquarium shops.

There are reefs however they are protected by the Environmental Authority.

Are there good aquariumshops in Qatar.

We do have a couple of shops who sell Marine Fish and anemones but they are not expert in reef

Do they have good quality like whe have in Europe and not the chinese stuff?

mostly all are chinese stuff and the fish is mostly from Sri Lanka

Are there marine reef experts?

If there are any they are not working in any Aquarium shops around Qatar

Are there distributors of corals ?

Live Corals or even soft corals are difficult to get here even if we did get it they wont last that long in our reef aquarium as Specialized lights like Metal halide lights are hard to get it

Are there company's like mine . Specialized in placing and maintaining reefaquariums?

not that i know off most of the anemones die off after some time as we dont have many specialized stuff thats needed like lights, food, medicine and stuff like that

I have been trying to get a sump design but so far have failed to get one most who did were not upto the mark

Do you think there can be a market for me?

I like to thank you all for your answers !

In europe : 'sponsor'= somebody that gives you money to help you. But i had some Maroccan business people that are very very interested in my company and they say : 'sponsor'= like a bank . Give money and money and profit.

I know i have to visit Qatar. I will do this very soon , maybe after 2 weeks !

I hope to find people in this forum that can give me a place to sleep for 2 weeks and knows something about economy and other thing that are usefull for my company. And people that can help me to find something about your governement in your country say what i have to do to start a business in Qatar.

@dmigty, since that Qatari friend suggested it, I think it's safe to assume that he will be the sponsor.

@joey, Qatar isn't similar to morocco but of course if you don't speak Arabic its fine. It does help to learn the basics though for those who don't speak english.

I don't personally know of any well known Aquarium business in Qatar. Of course if you need any help, just let me know.

your business and of course to sponsor you as well. But before you find or look for one, better see for yourself personally the condition here in Qatar. I think having to work with people of not same religion will not be a problem here. Of course you have to adjust to their traditions and manners which I don't think will affect your business. You just have to get a good location for your business. Who knows, some people (like me) might be interested to join business with you!!!!!

Dear

you have no problem with languages over here.

but i would advice you to jump in and have a look at the country your self, that would answer many questions you have now and you will have later ;)

Good luck
