i got an offer as finance dept in qatar. I will be new to qatar and having HbsAg. Please some one tell me can i pass medical exam. I check the whole forum and apple is helping everyone. So i believe apple will help me in this... at present in U.A.E

I am applying as Nutritionist/dietitian in a restaurant. My medical is pending due to some abnormality in my x-ray. It has scar in the apex and the finding is there was pleural thickening. My employer ask clearance from medical commission and they required me to have PPD and quantiferon. Unfortunately I got positive in PPD having 14mm but negative on quantiferon. Do you think, mdical commission grant me PR on this? Pls advise as I really want to work in Qatar. Thanks

Right now i am working in Oman for the last four years .

Before to come Oman I went through medical examination In India .One of center rejetced me on X-Ray scare .Later one within next 2/3 days I tried with another center I got fitness certificate without any influence .On the basis of that i came to oman and cleared all medical test here.In Oman normally they are checking blood If they have any doubt in blood report then they are going for X-ray.In my case they never did X-ray. Now i have one offer from qatar in automobile sector .I want to go qatar but little bit scared because of one unfit medical report.for example if I got rejected on X-ray will they stampt UNFIT in pass port.

Because of one center report 4 years before i am not able to decide .I will appreciate if any body could suggest me.I never have TB in my family history.

PLS. GIVE ME SOME INFO ABOUT THIS I'M JUST CURIOUS IF HEART ILLNESS OR PROBLEM CAN AFFECT MED. EXAM OR ONE OF THE REASON FOR NOT GETTING A RES. PERMIT OR I.D. WHAT DISORDER USUALLY THE QATAR GOVT. PARTICULAR WITH?

no, it is not active. does they check HBSAG for Engieers ?

As for my case, before your passport will be stamp, you will be require to undergo medical examination, blood sample and x-ray.

Now definitely they will soon find out if you have problem in your blood like what you've mentioned that you're a Hepa B (is it Active?).

Need to tell your company about it before going here in qatar.

Re: your queries, they will test u w/ HIV, PTB, and Hepa B/C. And if they found u positive of VDRL, they will advise and recommend u for treatment but not to deport u especially if you're already treated and cured, dont worry about that.

Tell me just one information more please:

Last week I repeated these tests:

VDRL is reactive and titer is 0 (zero).

All other test are same like I stated (TPHA reactive - titre 1:1280,

IgG-FTA-ABS reactive, titer 1:40,

IgM-FTA-ABS nonreactive, titer /).

My doctor still talking the same thing:

"Michael, you are treated with penincilline injection and you don't have syphilis. VDRL is reactive because there are antybodies for syohilis and here in our clinic in Austria we know that because we checked your condition at the time you were tested positive, during the therapy and after therapy, and there was huge titer in VDRL last year - 1:64 but today is zero, so Michael that means you are treated succesfully and you are healthy now. VDRL can be sometimes reactive and sometimes non-reactive, but that is only antybodies reactivity not bacteria reaction which is BIG difference."

My doctor told me that she can give me certificate to bring in Doha with me and she will explain there (it is some kind of letter) that I was treated with penicilline and that is no necessary now to repeat therapy again because there are only antybodies detected in my test, not bacteria.

Dear Apple, could you be so kind and give me some info about that. Will they accept that or they will deport me back in Austria. Do they test me in Doha for VDRL or only HIV, TBC and Hep ABC?

I'm form Austria and I have onbe problem.

Last year I got therapy because I was tested positive to syphilis. It was proper therapy and my doctor told me that I'm clear now. But, like we know all test became normal very slow after therapy. Last month, 7 month after therapy results were like this:

VDRL non-reactive - titre 0 (zero),

TPHA reactive - titre 1:1280 (this titer is low now because it was 15 times higher before therapy),

IgG-FTA-ABS reactive, titer 1:40,

IgM-FTA-ABS nonreactive, titer / .

My question is:

Is that acceptable for RP in Qatar.

This month i'm coming in Qatar and my company asked to make VDRL test in our country.

Do they test VDRL again in Doha or just HIV, HEP A,B,C etc.

Will they deport me in Austria if VDRL is positive in Doha.

It can be positive/reactive in Doha because my doctor told me that 18 month after therapy it can show sometimes reactive and sometimes non-reactive status, but titer will be allways zero and that titer is evidence that I am fine now.

Can u please help me with some advice, because if they can deport me because of that, I don't want to come in Qatar this month.

Are Qatar medicals accept certificate issued by specialist doctor in Austria where is stated that I got proper therapy and that I am healthy now.

Sorry guys, I am no in position to decide for your medical results or neither am I a doctor nor especialist here. I will share infos on something that am sure it is, but beyond that its no longer in my hands. The medical committees will decide for the results of your medicals for approval.

Im just waiting for the release of my RP and got alarmed with the information regarding PTB. I had PTB wayback 2007 but I was treated and got my medical certification for the treatment. I also have the history of my xrays. Is there a chance that I will still be deported even if I have medical proofs that the condition was already treated? Hoping for your response. Thanks a lot.

When we are about to transfer him to Ras Laffan, he was tested positive for Hepa B, Ras Laffan admin rejected his application for gate pass because they will not allow Hepa B positive inside the site.

You may have great chances in passing the medical here in Doha if you work as Secretary in a construction company. But your main concern now is how to passed the medical in Philippines, Gamca is very strict in medical test especially hepatitis.

Apple pls help me... I signed a work contract last week going to qatar as secretary and Im about to leave this january. As preparation for the medical examination I went to a laboratory clinic to undergone HbsAg screening. Unfortunately the result is positive. My wife and daughter are not positive thats why i had them vaccinated quickly. I am so worried now that I will fail the medical examination set by my local agency. It wont do any help at Medical Commission, but pre-employment medical is usually asked by your employer/company as requirements. And if you are an Engineer, you have great chances to passed the medical. You may send me pm, if you wish.

What exactly do they check in the Medical?

I have no idea w/ the medical system in KSA, though it could be quiet similar for all GCC. The best thing to do is to inform your HR Manager in the company regarding your illness, and explain to them that it is not harmful and contagious for them, if they have no objection on that, they can be of great help to you and it should be written clearly on the category of the application form for medical that you are an Engineer and the nature of your work is that of an Engineer. had my medical exam result and i'm not fit to work because i am HbsAg reactive. i don't know what other blood test they had done, i just knew that they only did was the HbsAg test. the accredited medical clinic here in manila told me that the gcc countries are very strict with diseases like hepa b. do i need to seek second opinion from other doctor and undergo another laboratory exam on hepa b.

I have read one of your comment about getting job in Qatar, but you r HIV positive. Yes, we ares haring the same situation. Many countries ban the HIV immigrants.

I know my status when I was in US last summer. I got job offer in Doha as professionals expatriates. My health condition is good, and the viral load in undetectable and my CD4 count about 800. I am not required any treatment at the moment, then my doctor confirmed that my health performance are very good, and willing to provide the medical report for reference and confirm that I am fit to work. I also clean from other physical illness, drugs, alcohol, syphilis, etc...

I went through the website www.explore-qatar.co....here is what its quoted.

"A residence visa valid for up to 3 years is granted to persons holding employment contracts to work in Qatar.

Applications for residence permits are made through the Immigration Department.

Employers arrange the necessary appointments, which include a medical examination, and finger-printing. The medical examination includes a blood test for Aids and Hepatitis, as well as an X-ray for tuberculoses.The results of these tests are normally received within 48 hours."

But, i didn't get any feedback about this matter until I found qatarliving.com. I was looking for the resource on my situation and I found your comments on it. So, therefore I take this opportunity to keep in touch with you.

You need not to worry, just come over and get a good paying job. I would suggest you to have your research regarding the mode of transmission for hep-B. And you'll learn that its not an airborne disease or droplet infection, unlike TB. Which means direct communication with your client will not transmit the virus and wont do any harm on them. Good luck!

i am very glad iv found this forum. i am lookign for answers for so long. i am wanting to work in dubai or qatar since i have relatives working there and they can help me find a sponsor that can issue me a working visa or the residency permit. this has been bothering me for years. i am from the philippines and i cannot apply for an agency hir going to qatar or bahrain or dubai because when the medical is the issue, im afraid il be rejected. my line of work is sales and marketing. but this also involves customer service or direct communciation with other people. can't this be a problem in the medical tests? what are the specific company that accepts this case? do they have new rules now in testing hep b since its 2008 already? can u help me april or anybody there who has concrete answers. im afraid il be deported if i go there and il just waste money and time. can somebody give me a contact who il meet up when im there in qatar that can direct me to a person or consultant just to verify my case before the medical test? so i wont be deported and il leav the country if they say that it's really not accepted. can u email me ? blurryblurr(at)yahoo(dot)com

Hi guys, i saw all your comments regarding Hepa and Xray test. i actually want to ask Apple regarding the Xray... as she's in medical field or anyone who have idea or information regarding this matter.

I'm already here in doha and currently working but not yet undergo to medical. My problem is i have a visible scarse in my lungs and im afraid to be deported because of this matter. But i already see a doctor in Hamad and undergo a lot of procedure and the doctor told me that all the results are negative and no viruses in it. He also told me that if ever i didn't passed in medical, the med-com will forward me to Hamad for further tests and he can support me thru medical results that i'm free of virus and it's an old scarse. So is it possible that med-com will honor that medical report from Hamad and allow me to work here in Qatar?

To my knowledge:

Anyone who has been vaccinated against HepaB, can test positive on some routine test. e.i. (HBs test) Hepa-B surface antibody test.

But this is a test to determine your level of immunity against Hepa-B, a positive result indicates your immunity to hepatitis B from the vaccination or a recovery from an infection. But NOT to be identified as a risk here.

Through the used of more sensitive and sophisticated lab test, it is possible to differentiate between a Hepa-B Antibodies produced by the disease or been exposed by any means AND a Hepa-B Antibodies produced by the vaccines.

It is also best advisable though not necessary for us to carry our Hepa-B vaccination card/evidence especially for a medical employee like us.

I also have a question. To work in any medical post in the UK you have to be vaccinated against Hep B. Does this mean that anyone who has been vaccinated will have antibodies in their blood and therefore may be identified here as a risk? Is is possible to tell the difference between someone who has been vaccinated and someone who has been exposed to the virus by other means? Should people who have been vaccinated carry evidence of it so that they can prove that they are not a risk? There are so many doctors here who have practiced in the UK, there must be a policy. Well buddies, I have good news, I am still in the country :) lol

The procedure after the medical test is to go for submitting the finger prints, and you can not perform that unless you passed the medical test.

The results of the medical test will not be delivered to you by hand, but it will be forwarded automatically to the next step.

Thanks god, I made the finger printing thing which means I passed the medical test. Now, I am waiting for the mandoub to collect my residency ID from the authorities within 10 days and thats it.

I hope the above mentioned in formation are helpfull and reliefing for all of you buddies.

No not yet, the results will need from 4 to 5 days to be delivered.

But if there is something wrong with the results, they will infrom the person by SMS, they are asking for the mobile number for this purpose.

I still have a couple of days waiting anxiously, I hope I won't get any SMS, so PEOPLE DON'T SEND ANY SMS ...... lol

By the way, for all other readers, I have an important remark for you, I asked the doctor there about the Hepatitis blood test, he answered exactly the same as our friend Apple said, it is done only for specific job categories, all jobs that has nothing to do with medical or food or any similar field will not be tested for Hepatitis. So don't worry at all.

The tests are done according to the criteria Apple mentioned above, job category, unless the employer wants the specific tests done.

I am Hep (I don't remember exactly b or c) I'm already located in Qatar and suppose to make the medical test tomorrow, I resigned from my previous job in Jordan to work here, and now i am afraid that it won't work because i am a Hep !!! well, i have a new born baby and I need this job badly to be able to support my family. If you work under category written below, you need to pass all these test: HIV test, Chest X-ray(PTB) test, Hepatitis A, B, & C and others.

1. Medical

2. Para-medical

3. Food Handlers workers

4. Primary School Teachers

If your job doesn't belong to these category, you ONLY need to pass HIV test & Chest X-Ray(Pulmonary Tubedculosis) exam.

You know.... What happens to one person in the Middle East may not happen to another person. That's why you're getting so many confusing replies, also people like to report hearsay as a true event.

My understanding is it's arbitary, just coz one person gets thru' maybe the lab was having a bad day! I am a healthcare professional and have worked in various Middle East countires and health sectors for a number of years, and really there's no rhyme or reason why sometimes people get thru and others don't. Maybe it's down to the company they come here to work for, maybe it's down to the Dr who reviews the results. I've seen so many screwy things going on out here that the only way you're gonna find out is to try.... and if you fail the test, well you can always find something else....Qatar ain't all that!

I have had a company employees wife rejected for being diabetic and they're not supposed to test for that! The reply to my question...when I eventually got one after hounding them was that she would be a burden on the healthcare system. True story!

What about Hepatitis C Does it prevent from obtaining a family visa

What are relief to know that they allow HBV inactive carrier to work in Qatar.. I've been planning to apply for Engineering jobs and my biggest concern is that I'm a HBV positive but inactive category..

I did my medical today for my new job, i inquire about the blood test. accordingly, they will only check HepaB, HepaC, PTB and HIV test for those MEDICAL, PARAMEDICAL, & FOOD HANDLERS workers. the rest only HIV test required.

I am absolutely astounded by the knowledge that appears to be displayed on this subject.

What does the test result mean?

* Hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs): a positive result indicates immunity to hepatitis B from the vaccination or recovery from an infection.

*Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg): A negative result indicates that a person has never been exposed to the virus or has recovered from acute hepatitis and has rid themselves of the virus (or has, at most, an occult infection). A positive (or reactive) result indicates an active infection but does not indicate whether the virus can be passed to others.

*Hepatitis B e-antigen (HBeAg): A positive (or reactive) result indicates the presence of virus that can be passed to others. A negative result usually means the virus cannot be spread to others, except in parts of the world where infection with strains that cannot make this protein are common.

*Anti-hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc): If it is present with a positive anti-HBs, it usually indicates recovery from an infection and the person is not a carrier or chronically infected. In acute infection, the first type of antibody to HBc to appear is an IgM antibody. Testing for this type of antibody can prove whether a person has recently been infected by HBV (where anti-HBc, IgM would be positive) or for some time (where anti-HBc, IgM would be negative).

*HBV DNA: A positive (or reactive) result indicates the presence of virus that can be passed to others. A negative result usually means the virus cannot be spread to others, especially if tests that can pick up as few as 200 viruses (copies) in one mL of blood are used.

There is a small confusion in the reply.Iam unable to understand the reply.If the person is non infectious hepatitis B carrier,there is a high chance that he or she will be hepatitis B surface Antigen positive and DNA PCR Quantative(viral Load)will be less than 1 lakh copies per ml.In this case will they be rejected for a residence permit?

a person w/ non-infectious hepaB carrier can obtain RP so long that he/she won't be working as a medical and/ or paramedical staff.

BUT, if the result is positive(+)... regardless of job nature, automatic deportation will be done. There is no consideration of viral level, its either negative(-) or positive(+)?.

I'd like to ask you a specific question about the blood tests which are required for the residence visa. I like to hear a clear answer for it please & urgently if possible.

Does the blood test check against Hepatitis C? Or does it check for Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B only?

If they check against Hepatitis C, here's my case. According the antibodies of Hepatitis C test, I'm low positive. It means that I have few antibodies for Hepatitis C. However, the PCR test which check the DNA of Hepatitis C proves that I'm negative. I have checked it about 3 times & made sure that I'm clean of the Hepatitis C, but I have the antibodies. Would I have a problem passing the blood test?

An advice : Never accept to move in Doha alone.If they refuse to give to your husband an Resident Permit, don't accept this job coz it's very hard to live alone in Doha if you come from a big city :)

I dont know about the med-com Qatar, but i know someone in Doha that was saved from deportation because he had low titers. But generally speaking, someone with high titres will most probably be deported, but as April said, her husband has been tested and cant pass it on, which probably means he has a low viral load. It also depends on med-com Qatar's definition of high and low viral load.

Apple, I got something from Medscape.

Viral load- low titers (below 100,000 copies/ml) and high titers (100,000 copies/ml or higher).

Thats per/millilitre of body fluid, preferably blood.

"Even among relatively healthy HBV-infected people, viral load is an important indicator of just how sick they might become in the long-term future,"

I am not 100% sure, but what happens depends on the viral load of a person with HepB. If he/she has a low viral load and little infectivity he is allowed to stay in the country, and has to undergo checkups regularly or treatment. If a person has a high viral load and high infectivity, i guess to be deported. And Qatar is interested in HepB,it is contagious and its more infectious than HIV (the amount of virus needed to cause disease is lower for HepB than for HIV).

Apple, I think you have to distinguish between a guy who trying to work in the deli at the grocery store who will have a direct contact with people's stuff AND people who are just coming here and will not have any interaction the public. Qatar is really strict about employees of resturants,cafetrias,delis,hosopitals with any form of disease and these are the people who likely to get deported.

I might be wrong. But I think that the only 2 things Qatar goverment look into are HIV and TB. I also think my grandpa have a hepa B&C and he was able to get a resident permit in Qatar. My understaning which might be wrong is hepa b&c is not contagious. I think your husband should be fine getting a resident permit ASLONG he is NOT working in some kinda grocery store or something where he might be able to touch the food that is being handed to customers or have direct contact with people in hospitals,clinics...etc

Apple,what you're saying is false,shit,lies,wicked,Nasty.May be you are April's enemy.I can't accept such scare information in this forum,because this forum is made to help people who decide to move in Doha and to give them true, sure and real information about Qatar. I find also your remarks concerning the Hepa-B carrier and the virus transmission between April and her husband very stupid and disgusting because I think that April is better informed than you HepaB.

Note that you can be a carrier of the HepaB virus without being contagious, if you want to have more info about this please ask to a HepaB specialist.

I think that the blood test is just for HIV and tuberculosis but not for HepaB and I found it discriminatory, stupid and abnormal because if immigration service can control people coming inside Qatar, they have no control on Qatari people and all those people who are not passing the blood test traveling outside of Qatar. I think instead of tracking people having HIV, it will be better to educate and inform people about this disease.

I live in Doha and I’m a Hepa-B carrier, I passed the blood test and got my RP without any problems and nobody ever told me about Hepa-B carrier test and deportation.

In our company, we require a pre-employment medical certificate (fit to work) from the applicant from their country before sending them a job offer. This to have assurance that he/she is elligible to obtained an RP in Qatar and to keep our company in the safeside. And its not only a certificate stating fit to work, there must be a laboratory details and we are very particular with these 3, (HIV,Hepa & PTB), as the med-com is looking after this cases. Some applicant may submit a fake certificate to us, but when they arrive to Qatar and underwent medical test it can still be detect so in this case the applicant must go back to his country on his own expenses and/or the manpower agency should replace a new worker.

April, Qatar is very strict with HIV, Hepa, & PTB.

To obtain an RP you need to undergo a medical exam:

*Blood test for HIV & Hepatitis

*Chest X-ray for Pulmonary Tuberculosis

I am affraid that your husband cannot get an RP in Qatar.

You mentioned that he is a Hepa-B carrier?

Hepa-B carrier is considered more dangerous because,

Hepatitis-B carriers may not feel sick but can still spread the Hepatitis-B virus to other people, they can pass the virus on to others and make others sick w/ hepa-B.

What about you, are you not infected also? you have to check it out becoz he is your husband. The people who is in danger of getting infected are those in direct contact w/ a Hepa-B carrier. Virus are to be found in the blood, semen, menstrual blood and other body fluids.

And if you got infected from him, you both cant get an RP here in Qatar. If the results of your medical test & your husband is positive, they will deport you w/in 3 days. The medical commission will contact your company and the police deportation dept. and handover your passport to the police and scort you to the airport for deportation.
