Legal advise of the qatari law/practice in similar cases

I rented my Apt. one year ago and the renting contract was 2 years ( Ending March 2011). however i only signed for 12 cheques to cover the first year ( Ending March 2010).
Now i want to leave the appartment, is there any legal penalty on me if i'll leave, as the landlord doesn't have any cheques against me.
Does any one know a legal consultant to advise?
Tks everybody, how can i give a notice, i think a verbal one is not sufficient, do i need to go to the court to file anything
depended on the contract how you arrange it but you can forward to me a copy of the contract then I can give you a quick solution.
Give a notice to the landlord showing ur intention to vaccate the premise.
3 months prior notice may be enough.
even if the landlord don't have checks, he still can claim for the rent for the second year.
