Is it a good offer?

Hi Guys

I need some help. I am liaising with a recruitment agency and they are offering me two year contract job in Doha. Altogether they are offering me QR 37000/month with no benefits other then tickets. I am planning to move with my family (2 children + wife). They will pay for my family tickets. Please let me know is this a good offer if I move with my family? How much is for 2 BR apartment + utility bills? How much is to buy a car? Can I get a loan\lease to get a car?

Thanks

if you plan to send them to a decent western private school, expect to pay between 40,000-60,000qr a year a piece (plus uniforms)

Try to get some of your school fees paid otherwise this takes a huge chuck of your salary.

Also, groceries are a lot more expensive, especially if you buy products that are imported. Our grocery bill doubled than what we used to spend in the States.

try and get them to pay school fees, or at least a portion of them. School fees are huge here - and you can't guarantee that the more reasonable schools will have places available.

subjective question.10 different people can respond to this post and you'll get 10 different answers.

Personally speaking, I think its a good offer and I say this a US expat.37000 is a lil over USD 10K TAX FREE,so yeah....I would take it.I'm assuming you've already negotiated with them and this is their final offer + based on the position and your experience,37k is more than what you'd make back home.

Regarding rent, depending on the type of accomodation you prefer ,can range from QAR 8500-12500 for high rise apartments (2br) ,villa's are upwards of 11k per month in Doha city,a lot less outside of Doha (Wakra for example)

Utilities (water, electricity)are often times included in the rent but if not, I'd say no more than QAR 500 a month.Extra's like internet,cable/satellite another QAR 500 depending on the options you get.

Getting car loans is fairly easy from what I know but cant speak from first hand experience since I havent taken one out.

Leasing here I feel is a expensive option. Long term rental is another until you settle down.

Since you have 2 kids,be aware that nurseries/schooling here is stooooopid expensive.I suggest you look up the fee section of some of the Doha based international schools and take that into consideration.

Looks like instead of breaking up your mothly gross into various components such as salary, housing allowance, utilties and travel allowance etc the company is just offering this lumpsum. No biggie. You havent mentioned if there is a bonus component but that can make a significant difference. And lastly, I'm assuming they offer private medical coverage thru AXA or some such company.

To sum it up, rent and schooling makeup the largest chunk of expense...and the Mrs's shopping bill!

PS - The figures I've mentioned are general averages that I've seen in my year and half here in Doha.

37k Qatari Rials is about 6k+ quid. Would 6k quid be enough for you to live comfortably in the UK? If yes, then 37k is more than enough in Qatar. It's about 8 times what quite a few folks earn here. Best of luck:-)

It's an offer. If it's good or bad is up to you. You can get loans to buy a car. You can get loans to buy anything. 2 BR apartments are between 2.000 and 25.000 QR. It again depends on what you prefer. So, how can we know?
