Isthemara Renewal

Hello QLers,

My car is due for registration renewal in 3 weeks time. I would appreciate your patience in answering the following:

1. Can I go for an inspection before the expiry of isthemara as it is most convenient for me to go on a weekend?

2. Is there a system of getting an appointment for the inspection?

3. If there are technical comments, how much time do I have to set these right?

4. Would I have to pay a fee for re-inspection after fixing any issues?

5. There is a small crack on my right fender and I have no idea when it came about (might be in some parking area); can this be a case for rejection.

Many thanks.

here are the answers to the questions:

1) Yes you can go, but you need to remember Friday is a Jummah day here and the center is usually off. Saturday is the only time you got.

2) Based on my past experiences, there isnt any specific appointment systems in place. As soon as you go to the inspection center, you need to talk to one of the inspectors/workers there. They will give you a more accurate waiting time than the rest. First come, first served

3) If there are technical comments, it is basically a very complex procedure in place I guess. My past experience, I was once fined good amount for being 2.5 months late (due to extensive mechanic repairs that I compulsorily had to do). Seriously, its not the technical center, its the Insurance Company that presses the late-charges.

4) No fees are required for re-inspection. My suggestion would be - take your car for a once over, tell those workers to do a full inspection and give you a list of Major and Minor faults. Major faults do need repair, minor faults don't matter much and you can easily get away with them. An overall check is good for both your understanding and time-saving.

5) If the crack is visible, then perhaps yes. Else you can get away with it. Even if they see it, and it falls in minor faults category, its not a big deal, you can pass your car inspection.

Hope these detailed answers help! Good luck with the tests!

5.  Once you pass "Techinical" Requirements, Failure in "Legal" requirement can be sorted out by going to Traffic Department at Madinat Khalifa.

If it is a noticeable scratch, there is a possiblity to fail in "Legal" requirements.
