Idiotic Banking - Standard Chartered Bank

Guys,

I will mention the main idea of starting this topic before narrating what happened to me.

Main Idea: Dare Not to Open a Account with Standard Chartered Bank of Qatar.

Some 6 months back when the whole world was in financial turmoil, as this situation came to most of expatirates of UAE, I have been shifted from Dubai to Qatar.

My New company has al their transactions with Standard Chartered Bank, hence I was introduced to SCB agent and I opened a current account with them.

They have not given me my cheque book for one month from their, I followed ith them twice by personally visting with their branch. After one month I got their cheque book. In between I would like to mention that applying cheque book through their internet banking is utter waste, that they dont take that request at all.

I asked for my 6 months bank statement for applying family visa, they charged me QAR 50/- every month. I would accept nominal charges like QAR 25 per month or QAR 15 per page, but QAR 50 was very high. I dont had much tansactions in my account so for just 2 pages of account statement SCB charged me with 300 Qatar Riyal.

So after all this, I asked them for credit card, they claim they can issue credit card only after completion of 6 months banking with them. okie, I could even accept this but even their gold card has high ANNUAL FEE without any perks or added advantage???? They have Emirates Privillege club Co-Branded card. After shifting to Qatar who is using emirates??????

I checked the mode of payment for credit cards, any thing less than 10,000 QAR need to be pai in their Idiotic ATM machines, which is rarely available in streets and even if it is availabel in their branches it doesnt work at all.

So I planned to take credit cards frrom other banks. I contacted SCB telephone banking asking for NO LIABLITY LETTER, they asked me to contact the concerned branch for the same and they are have not given me any details about how much they will charge me for it their reply was "We dont have the charges with us now sir, contact the branch for the details about the charges also"

So I went to their branch, wait for the only service executive serving a que of 20 customer slowly and passionately with his own sweet time (Here I dont blame that guy, but I am asking SCB, does a branch will have only one Customer service exective at peak hours?????)

He shocked me with a charge of another 300 QAR for giving NO LIABLITY Letter. First time I thought I made a blunder mistake of opning a account witn these Idiots, I was not able to express my anger to him, bcos I dont want to fight with idiots, I agreed and paid the 300 QAR in counter and went to him back with the reciept of payment. He took the reciept from me and said come back after 1 Week.

------------- I dont know what tos ay to him------ After charging me QAR 300 for one page, maximum 30 words letter he is asking me to come after one week. I asked him it is urgent for me to submit this letter as I will on vacation next week, I cannot come to your bank, the reply for very simple. "We dont prepar this letter her, It is prepared in our Head office" I was totaly irriated, I asked what is the procedure for closing the account, the reply was too funnny and painful in my case "It is chargeable and the charges will be QAR250"

----------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to CBQ, I opend a account with them within 1 hour in their Airport branch. same time card, telephne banking, internet banking are activated.

Master Card with Skyward scheme comes with annual charge of around QR 400/-.....

Internet ibanking service is 100% time better than on the counter services.

Undoubtedly, on counter services at SCB sucks since they changed all expats to nationals with limited knowledge or improper training.

Mokkai Chamy, i agree, all banks are sucks in Qatar, ALL of them.

But few tips for your issues:

1. In the future use the on-line banking, including the Credit Cards payment and printing out the Bank Statements (No Fee)

2. You still will use Emirates, even to fly to Emirates to visit your friend. By using the Credit card you obtain the points. Guess waht, i can easily fly to Dubai at least 4 times a year FOR FREE! Or you can use these points any time you fly with Emirates to your country of origin or to your vacation. For example, as of today I have got enough points to fly to THILAND for free. I find this system very useful.

Again, as for their customer services, they are sucks big time, like as i said, any other bank in Qatar (and not only bank, like ANYWHERE in qatar).. So at least try to use them for your benifits as much as possible..

You are right all the banks are corrupted. Being a muslim i will say almost many banks i have given bamboos like taking credit cards, loans & vehicle by just not paying back. Appreared court cases also but at the end all the amount was right off bcoz the court in qatar runs on the basis of islamic laws and it is strongly forbidden to take the loan with interest, so i m safe now !!! Guys u can try or i should say do it.....

QNB is the safest and strongest bank in Qatar ! they have the biggest network of branches & ATMs !! no one can challange them in Qatar !

CBQ is charges alot for their service ! i guess thats the only problem i could find !!

QNB has a service quality issue ! they are far behind CBQ and IBQ in this matter !

IBQ is a new pre-active bank ! they are very active in the market and very competetive ! their customer service is excellent ! and their products are good. one area they are far behind QNB & CBQ is their electronic banking facilities (way out of date) !

Other banks like islamic banking have their own market and are growing !

To Lamea,

CBQ has charges for statement generation but it is only QAR 15 per month and not QAR 50 per month like SCB.

I was wondering, how come everytime when i am stepping in to HILAL Branch, some one is fighting with customer service executive. I understood the reason very slowly.

Alhumdolillah I never had any problem with any bank in Qatar. One of my friend suffered so much with SCB.

CBQ also charge 50 riyal per month for the statement. and until and unless you don't have some wasta you will get the same treated which you have got from your previous bank.

I thought, I was the only one affectd, but it seems almot most of my colleagues are even affected with their service.

Worst part what you said is true, HILAL Branch, nearest to Airport, near to LULU, such a land mark place has only one Teller and One customer service executive. I was unfortunate to open an account with them. I want to get ri of them as soon as possible.

STANDARD CHARTERED IS THE WORST BANK IN QATAR

no doubt about this.............

1} They have only 3 branches

2) If u deposit or withdraw below 10000/ they charge 50 QR

2} Main branch no number system

3} Long queue always . some times infront of u group4 staff appeared with 1000000 riyals, then u have 2 wait for 1 hour

4} No parking space every morning

5} Hilal branch available parking but they don't accept company chequesor deposits

6) Only 1 teller staff, in Hilal branch
