Those who have answered 390km or 400km please note the question is about road travel not taking shortcut through sea. The exact distance is 720km from Doha City to Dubai City.
Sorry, yes I think it is longer than 400 kms, 600 kms sounds more like it. Yes there is a small hotel just after the UAE border, never stayed there though. On a smooth border crossing day expect the trip to take at least 6 hours.
Must get transit visas for Saudi Arabia. Saudi Embassy does not issue. There is a small office on B ring very near to old toyota showroom. From Jaidah flyover go to the old krazy roundabout signal, make u-turn and it is approximately 150 meters on the right side. Latest Tel no I have is 4832030. I forget the name of the office sorry. It is maybe 30 meters square size so smaller but it is at street level. Thay are good a this, Abu Baker man is very good.
Bring all passports of those travelling , the registration for the vehicle you will use with valid insurance, and letter(anything with some stamp will do, seems this just formality) of no objection from your sponsor/employer to travel for you and your family. They need at least 5 days to process and the visas are good for one month from the day of issue.
You will also need any Qatari exit visa at Qatari/Saudi border crossing.
All in all a easy process once you collect all the documents needed. 70 QR for each visa, you must purchase
car insurance in Saudi and UAE, both approx. QR100 per week, ( 1 week minimum ) even though you will only spend one hour driving through Saudi. Remember the insurance is good during the period you buy it so if it makes financial sense, purchase enough to cover your return through Saudi as well. Kiosks to purchase these policies are conveniently located just before the final exit gates.
Best to depart on a Friday when the borders are not busy but I have travelled other days and never a backup. Easy directions but suggest a GPS navigator to assist especially in Dubai where if you get lost it seems to take hours to get back on course. Garmin or TomTom with a middle east option are the best. Great drive to do at least once in your travels. good luck.
May I also ask that how long does it take to go to Dubai by car from Doha and is there any place on the way (like motel or something that we can stay for a night?
The total distance from doha to dubai is around 390 kiometers and the gas price would come upto less than 90 riyals or a bit more according to your vehicle type.
