how do i go about importing my car from dubai?

the furniture has all arrived safely, the wife too; the qatar RPs and driving licences are issued, and now all that's missing is our car, left in dubai. it's only one year old and given the current economic situation in dubai we'll probably lose a lot by trying to sell it there. so, the plan is to have someone drive it here and have it re-registered in qatar.

can anyone with prior experience in this exercise help out with info and a checklist?

First and foremost, how old is your car? if it is 5 years and over, you just cant import it here. I have an unsold 4wd back in Abu Dhabi.

BTW, anyone shifting to Abu Dhabi? :)

Well I'll be taking the same step next week, moving to qatar from Dubai, and I'm considering also to drive my car to Doha...I have asked the same question and here are some hints to consider:

1st, you need to de-register the car in Dubai.(car has to be fully paid off to the bank- Can't be under loan).

2nd, get an export plate, plus insurance.

3rd, you may appoint a shipping agent to deliver it to Doha, Or you may drive it there yourself.

4th, You'll need a Saudi Arabia Transit Visa To be able to drive/cross thru KSA.

Please let me know if you receive any other replies.

Thanks.

Before you can drive it here you need to get export plates from the police in Dubai. Basically, you can't import a car till it's been exported!

wow congratulations!!!!!!after all Dubai has been so much affected with global crisis and here you are so lucky enough to be settled here in Qatar. Well about your car, you may call shipping agent and inquire from them maybe they can shed an idea.
