Hooting

Can anyone tell me why when stuck in a traffic jam, people feel the need to hoot continuously at the cars infront of them?

This morning at 7.30 traffic was chaos in Mansoura on the way through Muntazah to Jaidah flyover, and numerous drivers had the annoying habit of sitting on their hooters while all of us where in the same situation of waiting for the traffic to move...

I mean come on... if I am stuck behind a string of cars, with cars filtering in from both sides, where exactly do you expect me to move to?

When I lived in Iran there were always long queues in traffice jams and as soon as the trafic light turned green the 20th car behind started hooping.

When I got completely upset with it I put on the emergencly lights and opened the bonnet, it is surprising just how many stopped to look in the engine with me although there was nothing wrong with it - then they had a real reason to hoop.

It gets me really angry. I suddenly slow down causing him to brake violently. If  he hits me from behind that's his problem :)

Don't you realise, that if you're stuck in traffic, you are supposed to honk your horn for as long as possible. This signals to the Traffic Gods that all is not well, and they shall part a course for ye.

Or something like that.

...as silly as a bum full of Smarties.

Just engage your reverse gear and check his/her reaction, or start hooting as well

is the time between the lights changing and the idiot behind blowing his horn

By jauntie• 18 Feb 2008 18:39

over the years in these 'ere parts.

It really isn't as bad as it used to be, honest!  Even in Doha it seems less now (probably because of the fines threatened if you use the horn unnecessarily).

What I DO recall is when I got home from Jeddah and was sitting at traffic lights in the UK.   The lights changed to green, I put my car in gear to move off and the bloke (probably was a man) behind me leant on the horn .... I almost got out of my car and punched him!

I didn't realise just how much in denial I was, having lived with horns honking right left and centre around me in Jeddah, without being able to react, until that moment.

Well, there were other moments, but that was just one.

I guess they might be 'long'-honking to the first person in the row who is responsible for this jam :)

Hey Xena :)

It's quite annoying, but I don't think it's that frequent humdullilah.

When people behind me start hooting, I look back and show them the "flying sign" with my hands ! Try and fly if you can, I sure can't, bcoz I am not flying an airplane, just driving a car !

It is very, very irritating, but unavoidable in Doha. Add it to the list !!!
