Home Help

Hi All
Well, after my Dhahran or Doha post, the offer in Doha has now materialised. It's pretty good, including housing, car allowance, medical, school fees and transportation, so we are certainly not grumbling.
My question is about home help. We have had home help in other postings and would really prefer NOT to have anyone live in. Our housing won't have staff quarters, per se, just enough rooms for all of us. What we want is someone to do a little housework from about 9 or 10am, then meet our boys from school, then pretty much leave by about 3-4pm. We don't mind that much about cooking, but we do want to get someone who is great with kids.
And here's another question.
If we did not live close to the school, is it possible to have a reliable driver or some sort of transport to bring them home? (I don't know if the school has a bus - probably.)
Thanks for being so informative. This site is really helping.
Love to all XX

Hi,

Hello novita77, you had bad experiences with Karwa taxi? I have been using them (reserved taxies) since I was here and they are more reliable as compared to private drivers. I use them sometimes on weeknights and heavily on weekends and there was only one occasion in which the taxi was late for more than 10 min. The only drawback is that you have to reserve several hours before the ride (not to mention the reservation charge).

becca ... good maid in Doha come is like a gem. Very hard to find. If you go to expatwoman.com, there are loads of ladies there that always looking for maid/homehelp.

Karwa Taxi here is unreliable for school run. If money no objection to you ... you can used the limousine to do school run and pay it monthly.

Some school have a school bus (like American School of Doha), some school dont. For me personally ... judging by the people driving around in Doha ... i rather fetch my son there and back my own. I dont trust other people driving for my kid.

I dont know what else you want to know ... anymore question just shout and good luck with your relocation to Doha.

........if we take the job we won't be there til August. Am I wrong in assuming that posting an advertisement in the classifieds is way too early? Plus we haven't even accepted the jobs yet, so wouldn't that be false pretences?

I am sorry if I have breached some form of forum etiquette, I was just hoping for some on-the-spot informed opinion which was somewhat less casual than actually advertising for staff.

Thank you.
