Flights in and out of Qatar
By londontodoha •
Hi
I'm booking flights to fly across to Doha (from London) for a posting. While most of the time will be in Doha, there may well be travel overseas for work, possibly back to London.
Would it be cheaper to buy a return from London (e.g. fly out now and return at Christmas) or a one way to Doha and then book returns once in Doha. Company will contribute price of a ticket to Doha.
Also, if I have a personal London-Doha return ticket (e.g. returning to London in December) will I still be allowed to get a work ticket on the same route (e.g. if I have to go to London in August for work) or will I be barred?
Hope that's not too confusing and thanks in advance.
Thanks! Looks like I need to look into this with a bit more detail - I thought flexible QR tickets were changeable with no fee!
A return ticket London-Doha-London will be cheaper than a one way. If your employer will pay for a one-way you can save them a bit and you will also have a 'get-you-home-ticket' in your pocket.
Unfortunately you can no longer book an 'open' return - you will have to give a date and as another poster has warned if you later change date that there may be heavy charges applied.
careful how much time you spend in the UK as you could become liable for income tax. Passports are scanned now don't forget.
Thanks very much. I've noticed that flights seem to be about GBP500 more expensive when booking from Doha but wasn't sure if that was just me!
I'll probably get a flexible ticket.
Thank you once again!
Round-trip (return) is almost always cheaper. If you book a return for December you can come and go in between, no problem. But, if your employer changes your dates for the Christmas break you could end up paying a lot in change fees.
