first day in Doha and already homesick :(

By alexie

I am excited to work in Doha. But when I arrive this morning in my accomodation, the homesick feeling came in.. I just cried. I know this is what I want maybe I just miss my family. Alone in a country with no friends is difficult. :( WHAT TO DO?

Just stay calm Alexie, there are a number of pure racist and rude people on QL, just watch out for them!

Apart from that you should be ok. You just have to get used to this place pretty quickly. The summers are very depressing here, if you manage to survive one you will be ok..:)

TO CLEAR IT UP :)

I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER OF QL YEARS AGO DURING MY FIRST JOB OFFER, IT DIDN'T PUSH THRU HOWEVER FOR SOME REASON...

AND NOW I'M FINALLY HERE.

DO U HAVE TO BE IN QATAR BEFORE U BECOME A MEMBER OF QL???

HOPE THIS CLEARS EVERYTHING UP!

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE....

DIDN'T KNOW THERE IS SO MUCH NEGATIVITY AND CRITICISM IN THIS WORLD.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR ADVICES, IT CHEERED ME UP ^^

I dont know how the OP says she is here for a job. Since when the rules changed in Qatar to employ children?? Isn't it child exploitation then?

alexie, you will note that the work culture here is also different.

i would suggest that you allow yourself 3-6 months to fully understand the company and the work culture. this way, you will gradually start liking your work and by the time you realize, it will be time to go an a vacation :)

Thats the way it works here!

there are lots of things good abt living in qatar - the most important being the money you save! look at the positive side of live, and take it slow and steady. dont jump into conclusions in a couple of days experience.

good luck!
