Hi there,
Am planning to drive my car with household items to Qatar. Anybody can help me for the followings?
Anybody has road map or important turning points from Sila to Qatar?
Is there any duty on household items?
How long it takes from Abu Dhabi?
Saudi transit validity and can I get it from Abu Dhabi?
What are the paper works, customs etc?
Once reached Qatar, how long it takes to register the vehicle, insurance etc?
Do I need insurance while travelling?

Many thanks if someone can help me writing the detailed procedure for the above points

Good news tt you drive all the way to Qatar most welcome. You should complete visa process especially saudia ( via road ) you can get in abudabi saudian embassy or some ageny there. when you reach Qatar border there is only immegration process and they will come and chk ur car and the persons (how many) with valid documents. after reach in Qatar you start process easily for the registration ,insurance, driving licence ect....nowadays it is very easy system we have in qatar for the process of whatever govt related work. You need Insurance while driving between Abudabi to qatar. all the best

Sure, no problem...

Anybody has road map or important turning points from Sila to Qatar?

After entering Saudi Arabia go straight... Then after a while you will get to a round about, turn right (it's only a choice of right (To Qatar), or left (To the rest of Saudi Arabia/Bahrain/Kuwait ... ) Please be careful, beware of the big trucks)

Is there any duty on household items?

It depends on the quantity, if it's not a commercial quantity(too much) you wouldn't normally pay anything.

How long it takes from Abu Dhabi?

It depends on how fast you drive, and the delays at the borders, I'd say between 6 and 8 hours...

Saudi transit validity and can I get it from Abu Dhabi?

48 hours each way,and yes.

What are the paper works, customs etc?

The husband will need to travel alone, and then sponsor the wife... This could take a month or more.

Once reached Qatar, how long it takes to register the vehicle, insurance etc?

Less than a week. But you need to change the car license to an export license, with a special "export" number plate.

Do I need insurance while travelling?

You will need to pay SR70 in Saudi Arabia as car insurance, and something at the Qatari border.

It could be easier to use a company to help you with this...

For all latest details and requirements and how the things can be arranged, I would suggest you contact National Shipping Gulf Agency (part of GAC) who handle the transportation of cars from Abu Dhabi to Doha. There office is in Meena, 11th Street. You can get their tel. no. either from their website or local tel. directory.

Anybody has road map or important turning points from Sila to Qatar? Abu Dhabi to Qatar is almost a perfectly straight road the only turn to be made will be in Saudi Arabia (almost after 1 hour driving after entering Saudi Border) as the road will come to a big round-about where you will then take a right turn to Doha/Qatar (Salwa Border)

Is there any duty on household items? Not sure, but I shop at Ikea and bring things back all the time and normaly no hasle.

How long it takes from Abu Dhabi? I would say around 5 to 6 hours depending on the border how busy it is and how fast you drive.

Saudi transit validity and can I get it from Abu Dhabi?

What are the paper works, customs etc? you need to get a transit visa from saudi embassy in abu dhabi.

Once reached Qatar, how long it takes to register the vehicle, insurance etc? well I am not really sure about this but I believe you will need to get transit plates (Export)if your car is reg. in Abu Dhabi.

Do I need insurance while travelling? Yes, after passing the all the Saudi inspections the last booth you will need to get car insurance which will be 70 Dhs as they charge for a 7 day period. and the same will go for Qatar but as I live here I am not sure about the payment on the insurance here before entering.
