Doha or al- khor

Folks,
Have just joined Qatargas and am in the process of selecting accommodation. The company has offered me the option of either Doha or al-Khor. I would like to know your view. I have a 3 year old daughter, so nursery/play school is important at the moment and soon, a good school as well. Also, my wife is trained as a dentist and she is quiet keen to get working. Before I arrived, I was leaning toward Doha. But having commuted to ras laffan this week, I am pretty sure that the drive there will eventually get to me (my boss said that was the worst part of his life here). But, family takes. Please let meknow your views. How are the nurseries and play schools? Are there any opportunities for dentists in al-Khor?

Well I live in Al-Khor Community, since my father works in QatarGas too. The community here is great, there is a nursery school here, an English school -british stream including all classes up to Grade 13.

The community here has 3 clubs, 1 major and 2 smaller, which contains pools, GYMs, restaurants, lounges etc.

The community itself has its own 2 Co-ops, medical center, sports fields. The community is a city bigger than the city of Al-Khor. So ur wife can apply for a job in the community's medical center.

I would recommend staying here, since I have been here for the past 14 years and loved it.

BTW - wats ur position in Qatar Gas will be?

welcome on board... I suggest there is no comaprison of city life with al-khor town. Try to saty in Doha. Travelling is not a big deal since company has bus services and very compfortable. After all its your decision.

well, good playschool is available in alkhor. but when she grows up, she will be needing a good university which is located in Doha. so for now, alkhor is ok since travelling is really a big factor. aside from danger, its really stressfull. i can tell cause my work requires me to go raslaffan thrice aweek. i choose to live in Doha cause my wife works in Doha. @ afsalm20, what are you grumbling about, dont you understand what he said? he said that driving far is the worst part of his boss life in qatar since he lives in Doha and works in alkhor area. its not that hes having the worst life here in Qatar, only the driving part. get it now?

It's preferable to stay in Al Khor as commuting daily to doha is difficult and dangerous. There are good international schools in Al khor, posh residential compounds, grand shopping malls and restaurants.

Best of luck.

If your work place is in RasLaffan then AL-l-Khor is better coz it would be nearer to your office.

Driving daily from Doha to Raslaffan is hectic and dangerous too...

I prefere you stay in Al Khor as tat place is also developed we have good shopping centers too and i am sure there are good nurseries and play school around !

Cheers and best of luck.
