In dire need of cargo/freight company

Hello all kind souls willing to offer advice...

As you all know, relocating to another continent is a nitemare...More so as I'm coming from the U.S. and it's extra far. I would immensely appreciate if anyone can advise on a freight/cargo company in the US (New York) that "has a clearing company in Qatar", as I was told most of the big ones do..Problem? I haven't a clue what freight company can be reliable as frankly, I've spent my life with UPS/Fed Ex. Can anyone recommend a company they used for their big move? A million thank yous!!!

Hey Lapis! UPS/Fedex can be expensive in the long run, and not sure if they have a clearance to send items in Qatar. Try to check out NYBOX forwarding services. It is a New York based company just like what you're looking for.

I am coming from New Zealand and will probably use door to port/airport for my personal effects. Clearance and delivery in Qatar will require a local agent.  What is the procedure for clearance/delivery in Qatar? and how do I go about this before I arrive in Qatar?  What are the charges for an agent and does this charge include clearing/customs/tax. I have names of two companies: International Freight Services and ISS shipping.

This really is a problem and shifting from one country to another country is not easy. When you shift from one place to another you need to take care of many things like your furniture and household stuffs. There are many international shipping companies who provide cargo services from one country to another but we need to choose one and it is always tough to choose the best from many. In my opinion you need to do some research online and know the shipping rates, because different companies have different rates and the rates which you are looking for will not be easy to find. The rates are basically fixed on the weight of your things and you know more weight means more price. My suggestion is you should find a good information on shipping cost of every company and find the company which provides quality service in affordable rates then you can go with that company.

I have the same problem with Lapis. I have 6 boxes of cargo nearly 200kgs from Dubai UAE. I have found a freight forwarder here in the UAE but the problem was upto seaport/airport only. Please help me what is the procedure to clear the shipment from the port/airport. We are new in Qatar. Please help....thanks.

Dear Friend,

It is just a small shipment of 68 Kg. weight. If it is a 45 cms. box then the volume will come 92 Kgs. The local expenses in Doha for clearing and delivery will cost you minimum Qrs. 500.00. to 6.

The basic charges for an agents involvement is high comparing for such small cargo.

Tell your friend to handed over the shipment directly to any shipping company and send to your name. Can clear and collect directly at the airport with a local clearing agents support. The approximate cost will be $ 600.00

Need further clarification pls. drop a mail to my husband [email protected]

Lapis, if you have only 6 boxes total of about 150lbs, would you be willing to use the US Post Office if you can find a good address to use at this end. there may be an option worth considering. Don't want to reveal to much in this forum. if the site comes back to normal, please PM me. Good luck.

Thanks so much guys...it seems like all companies ship really heavy loads - I only have about 6 boxes totaling not more than 150lbs...turns out Allied Pickfords has a a flat rate of about $1,500 for 1,000 & less. Seems very much a waste of money...Any other options are highly welcome!

I recently moved here and had to go through finding a reliable company and everything so I can understand the frustration and anxiety :)

I ended up using DMS Moving as the local agent, Atlas International as the main sea freight carrier and ISS Shipping in Qatar as the local agent. All in all my experience was pretty decent. I didn't use all of these separately, I just had to contact the local agent in US and they provided all the remaining contacts and details.

PM me if you would like to discuss more or need more info.

Hi,

I do agree moving into new country & at new locations is bit nightmare, but its always better to contact right company which covers your need.

Instead of contacting local agent or freight company who has one off small offices,I would suggest to contact people who are professional in it.I mean a relocation company who handles in movement of personal effects. One best company you can contact is Interem-Freight Systems, who does have offices in worldwide, their office number is +974 4660870/ 4667504/ 4568519 & ask for personal effects dept.

All the best.
