Destination Doha
Greetings all
So, I've taken up an offer from HMC and hope to be in Doha in the next 6-8 months. I'm in Healthcare IT, hence HMC. I'll be leaving England to set up home in Qatar and am looking forward to the different experiences.
I'll be by myself for the first couple of years and hope the family can join me (subject to my wife getting an appropriate role) later. We would then all like to be here together (children would be 8 and 10 then) for a few years at least. The rationale is -
1. We all live, learn and experience different cultures - specially the children
2. Build up a savings nest - this will really accrue once my wife is here and on a decent salary (hopefully). She is a medic.
Would love to hear from folks who've made a similar move. What are your experiences of working there and bringing up children.
Please don't hold back; all responses welcome :-)

I read that you are new to Qatar.
Just a little information to help you ease in to Qatar.
Uber is the cheapest means of transport around until you get your own car. Since it has been only a year or so since Uber launched in Qatar they have a lot of promotions going around. It is a great source of saving money as compared to booking taxi services like Karwa.
Here is a starter pack of 80QAR credit if you're not on Uber yet. Just register with the link given below and enjoy your first free taxi ride.

For second time use,
Promo Code: DOHASUMMERLOVE -- 20% off all rides till August 2015
Cheers !
Thank you very much for your replies Britexpat, Wild Turkey and Icapall.
My intention is to do exactly that - lots of research, which has been ongoing for a while and influenced my decision to go ahead in the first place. But I see the importance of constant change and the need to keep up to speed. As of now, I am trying to make some contacts there and already having all of you as virtual contacts is proving helpful!
I suppose as things come to a head, many other aspects of our living there will become clearer.
Thanks again
Different strokes for different folks, with in these 8 months do alot of research keep up to date about doha, cause things here chage rapidly.
Agreed, it's a great place to bring up children. Mine came here when they were 1 and 3 years old. They graduated here and are now studying elsewhere. With their friends they had a great time in Qatar.
In my personal opinion.
Great place to bring up children (up to around 13/14 years of age)
You get to spend a lot of family time together
Make sure you sort out a good school because places are at a premium
Activities can be limited , but you make great friends
Many come for a couple of years and stay for many many more
Traffic can be irritating , but no more so than London
My penny's worth :O)
