Compound housing -- can you paint walls, hang artwork/pictures, install babyproofing gadgets, etc?
We think (key word!) that we will be living in either the Laguna Beach compound or the QIPCO compound.
Does anyone know what we're allowed to do to the "house" in terms of making it our home? Can we paint the walls? If so do the colors need to be chosed from an "approved list". . .are we charged for repainting? (And, on that note, how pricey is it to have someone come in and paint?)
How about hanging our artwork/pictures? Are we allowed to do so? Do we have to hang them only in existing holes? If they allow us to hang things, do we need a hammer drill to get into the concrete? (I a assuming that the walls are concrete vs. drywall, but correct me if I'm wrong.)
With two little ones, we'll need to do some babyproofing -- baby gates for the stairs, the drawer/cabinet gadgets, etc. Is this something that they'll freak out over?
Thanks so much!
Hi deedee,
Do you know if the paint was lead-free and what Brand is decent?
I'm looking at getting the apartment done with Fenomastic Matt - Jotun as it is washable. Was just wondering if this is ok?
I was quoted QAR7 per sq m for labour.
Any recommendations are appreciated.
They will have a carpenter come in and put gates at the bottom and top of the stairs and anything else needed (depends on the villa).
I had my QIPCO villa painted last summer. It was around $50 a room including paint and labor. Both are cheap here. You are not charged for repainting. Many people do more than just paint (built in bookcases, wall units, even storage sheds) They just rip it out when you leave.
The compound maintenance will come and drill as many holes, inside and out of your villa, as you so desire. Yes it takes a special drill bit to get through these cement walls and the tile.
almost anything added onto the villa is OK. You wouldn't want to knock down walls or take something away obviously. They need to be able to restore it to it's original condition.
i know you can hang artwork/pictures and even put those baby proofing. the only thing i'm not sure is re-painting the inside of the house, what i know is you need to ask the owner first as a courtesy to them. a friend of mine did it to one of his daughters room and the owner did approve their request, although the cost did came out from their own pocket.
with repainting the outside of the house, what i know is they have a law in place right now of what color is allowed, so better not touch the outsid ecolor of the villa. hope this helps :)
