Desperately trying to find out information about International School of Choueifat in the West Bay area.

Their web site doesnt give much information.  I would be grateful for any comments, negative and positive.  Any experiences that  you may have had with school.  I would like to find out the nationalities of the teachers and if they have native english speakers at the school.  Class sizes etc.

Many thanks inadvance.

Don't stay alone in the USA.  It's a really bad idea to seperate the family. My husband and i have been living apart for a year and a half with him in Doha because last year we couldnt get the kids into a school of our choice.

Just get them into a school, any school. Once you are in Doha you can go around the school and put them on all the waiting lists. Once you are here and you can change them.  You will find a place eventually but it might not be the school you want.  When do you plan to arrive in Doha???  Maybe we can meet up with our kids.

Good luck.

the second class schools are not bad. their advantage is that they are not much in demand. while you are here, you can dig and look for a suitable school with empty seats.

OK then what is the better scenario?  Stay in US alone with children for 1 year until some school takes them? this is worse.

Qatar needs many more good schools.

the worst scenario is to enroll them in a "second class" school till you find a place in one of the schools you would be comfortable with

We are moving in June and we called 8 schools so far and even the waiting list is closed. We have twins 6 years old and we don't know what to do.

Any ideas or help.

They do teach Arabic but if your child is older and does not speak Arabic, I believe that they don't offer it. Things may have changed from my time though.

Am happy with the school. They did achieve good results mainly TOEFL, SAT I & SAT II. Also did find their way easily to the universities.

It is a school for serious students. Yet, they maintain good personality, get exposed to the state of the art technology and methods.

Highly recommended

thanks for taking the time to reply.  It helps alot when an actual student gives insight on a school.  Glad that you enjoyed your time there.   Which Choueifat school did u attend????  Qatar or another in the Gulf?  Thanks again.

Agree with Cornellian.

It is a rigourous system however the results are very good. I am former Choueifat student and despite all the complaining as a kid, it did me a world of good.

I agree whoami, because it has so many branches in many countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Pakistan, Germany, etc. I, myself, am a proud Choueifat graduate. It's a tough school, and it does require more work than other schools; however, all its students greatly appreciate it after they go into university and compare themselves to the standards of others. Its standards are higher than many other schools and it supplies ur children with all the tools needed for success. I highly recommend it, I was a student there for many years, and my brother and sister still attend it.

Oh yeah and everyone I know who attended Choueifat are doing very well in university, so goes to show that it is a good school :)

I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong -Garfield

Choueifat is one of the most recognized schools in the region let alone Qatar.

I don't think that learning by heart can be considered an advantage, unless we're talking about drama school!

It follows the SABIS education system which u an google to find out more abt it. I have heard its for really hard working kids and kids going there at a later age find it hard as its quite tough with regular exams and tests. My son is on the waiting list of it and i wouldnt mind going for it as he is only 4 and that way he can get into the habit of revising every day when he comes home.

I have never been in the school but I will tell you what I know about it. It is a very good school. The learning system is more based on the french system. Learning by heart and lots of homework. The concept of Choueifat is originally Lebanese I believe. Maybe if you google Choueifat you will get more info. Not only Qatar. I know of some kids that go to that school and I have seen their books. I think it is better than some of the other schools available.

thanks for your comment.  Qatar is so stressful before you even get there!  Never known such hardship trying to get children into school!

Not up to the same standard as other schools.

Old fashioned perscriptive teaching - based on product (exam) and not process (real learning and knowleged aquisition)
