Bringing My Dogs to Doha

By Ollie Girl

Was hoping some of you could advise me in regards to bringing my two dogs happily and safely into Doha. From what I understand dogs aren't incredibly popular there especially large dogs which both of mine are. I would like to know if any of you have taken your dogs with you, how you did it and what problems you have come across? Are animals allowed into the compounds or would we need to source somewhere that dogs are allowed to go into? eg do they have yard space, are they allowed in the street on leash etc etc?

Thanks in advance, alot more q's to come! :-) Olliegirl

Hi there. Ok first things first........alot of us have dogs here in Qatar, and as long as you make sure that your compound allows dogs before you bring the dogs), and that your house has a yard that is safe, then you shouldn't have any problems.

Browse through the Pet group here as Novita suggests and also take a look at my website http://www.qatarpets.org

Some large breeds of dogs are not allowed into the country without a special permit, so like Beverley mentioned I would contact QPR on http://www.qatarpetrelocators.com/index2.php

and discuss the finer details.

You can contact me via my website, qatarpets if you need any more info.

When you do make it down to doha, please register your dogs with us. :)

Take care. Moonbeam

We have just arrived in Doha , 10 days ago ,and we are living in a compound for a short time until we move into a stand alone villa. We have a large dog and so far it has been fine. We have to leash him inside the compound but there is plenty of room outside the compound to let him off the leash. These are mainly void spaces or plots of land which are scheduled to be built on.

From what I understand , locals are not keen on dogs, but I guess as long as you are sensible , should not be a problem. You would have to see what accomodation you can source to see whether you will have yard space and I guess each compound will have their own rules. So far , no issues for us.

We had a very good experience with the tranportation and handling of the importation at this end using a lady called Janet Berry of Qatar Pet Relocations. You can google her.
