Agent vs Private Finding a flat!
We will be moving to Qatar next year. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether using a rental agenet is a good idea. I read they charge something like 2K to the renter as a letting fee??? Does anyone deal direct with their landlord? Can you avoid that fee? or perahps it's just easier dealing with an agency. I also read if you look like an expat the rent with double from the advertised price??? Seems scary finding a place to live! We are just looking for a reasonable flat in the Al Saad area.
Perhaps yes.... the same thing happened during the previous Doha 2006 asian games.
I am not so sure at this time if they have implemented a law of unfair rent hike, as my experience during the 2006 asian games landlords will not even give you a notice that they will increase the rent at least 2 months before, they really took advantage of the situation and take note within a year they increased 3 times in a year. in short we left the flat and took the provided accommodation provided by the company. "sigh"
Thanks Qatarisun :-) Yes reading it again it does sound silly, you made me smile today which is good becuase for me the day is just beginning!
I wonder when you win the World Cup tomorrow, we will see rents gruadually climb?
.."if you look like an expat" ??.. lol.. try to camouflage yourself.. :):)
If your company provides for the accommodation, then,
there's a staff in-charge for this.
Why worry? In the heart of Doha, you have good choices.
Besides, the rent has gone down.
look at this website to get an idea.

Try searching the classified ads of gulf times. You can access it online. Usually, flats in al sadd are through real estate agencies. Normally for a 2 bedroom flat it ranges from 6t up to 8t..
You're lucky to come to Doha now. 3 yrs back you needed a miracle to find suitable accomodation.
Now no need for agents; the "for rent" sign is every where with direct contact to the landlord in most of the cases.
God knows how it will be if Qatar wins 2022 bid.
