Advice on bringing a large Golden Retriever to Doha
We are planning to be in Doha in August if all goes well. Does anyone have advice on traveling with a large dog? We will be traveling from the States. Also, how did your dog adjust to the heat. We are from Texas and it gets hot but nothing like Doha. He is an indoor dog. Will we have any problems having a large do? Thank you in advance for the input:)

I am curious about the dog door. That is a really good idea. Did you have specific housing information before you arrived so that you knew what type of door to bring? Do you have any issues with other animals using the doggie door? What type of door do you have?

We brougt our Beagle, Lab and cat from Houston in March of last year and had no problems whatsoever...we contacted Qatar Pet Relocators (http://www.qatarpetrelocators.com) and they made everything very easy for us. Upon departure from Houston, Lufthansa staff was extremely courteous and helpful, letting me stay with my dogs until the last possible moment before taking them away into cargo. Not sure where you will be flying from either, but August is a very warm time of year throughout the US, and most carriers won't take pets on the plane if the temp is too high...you may want to check this out.
Once we arrived in Doha, the dogs came out after all of the baggage and I was able to wheel them right through the customs check...they didn't ask for any of the paperwork, but I did have it ready just in case.
Our dogs are indoor dogs as well for the most part. We purchased a "doggie-door" before we left Houston and had it installed for them in our villa here so they can come and go into the back "yard" as they please...heat hasn't been an issue.
I would also stock up on pet-meds...you can get everything you need here, but it comes at a premium. Vet care here is great as well...
I find it very similar here to SE Texas, in fact it's much more humid year round in Houston than Doha, although somehow it is harsher here in the desert.

We brought our dog from Houston through Amsterdam on KLM, they are the best handlers for transporting animals and have facilities where the animal is checked over before continuing the journey on to Doha. We used Animal Land PetMovers in the US who took care of everything for us. It was expensive but worth it for peace of mind.

First have a look at the Pet Group here on QL, second visit the Qatar Pets website, and you will see quite a bit of information.
Getting the proper paperwork done here to import is easy for us from our side, but may be hard for you to get done from there, so on the qatarpets website you will find all necessary links and info you need.
Heat wise, if you dog is an indoor dog, then no worries at all.
My dogs came from the US, just try an get the most direct flight for you dog, to reduce confinement times for him or her.
