It is always Ok and you are most welcome. To be honest it has been a while since the last time I've been to the carrefour, I would be going soon these days and I will check it out. I don't want to ask you to buy something that you may not find.

Best Regards

Dear King Edshel, how kind you are. I have look at the laptops at Carrefour and I am lost. My purpose is surfing the web, not much gaming.

Appreciate your helps.

You can go to Carrefour in Villagio or City Center. The prices their are descent compared to Jareer [which is too expensive] and both of them would give you 1 year warranty and both of them got technical support so don't worry about it. Jareer have their own technicians and Carrefour would send it to Emitac to fix it. I don't know for which purpose do you want to use the laptop [Gaming - Surfing The web - Programming - Designing] If you can tell me it would be of a great help.

Best Regards

The prices:

The prices are different because of the difference specifications and operating systems including. The new laptops would be a little higher in prices than the usual ones and the secret is in Windows Vista. Look at 2 HP laptops with the same specifications and you will find that there is a difference between the prices because one comes with 'MS Windows XP Home edition' while the other one comes with 'MS Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium'. The difference would be from 500 - 800 Q.R.

Another factor is the processor, the speed and type of processor can also play a major role here.

We have currently those :

1- Centrino Mobile Technology

2- Core Duo

3- Core 2 Duo

The price would go higher as we move from Number 1 to 3 [No.1 is the cheapest]. I'm talking here about the good ones along with some AMD models. There are a lot that you can find with cheaper prices, those got Celeron, Sempron and other low cost processors.

The RAM, Hard Drive capacity and the size of the screen [usually 14, 15, 17] and Video Cards [Shared or not, don't go for the shared or what called VRAM, those would rely on your laptop RAM so if you have 512 MB and your Video Card was 64 MB, then the actual RAM that you have would be 512-64=448 and so on] can also play a role here in determining the prices of your laptop.

I am impressed, King Edshel.

I was thinking of an Acer but now I am convinced that it's not a good choice. My budget is around QR. 3600. What HP are you recommend and at which shop.

Thank you

Magandang Hapon :)

Glad to hear that I helped a little, well honeykreme I asked one of my colleagues and he is from the Philippines about few things and I come up with this: It depends upon what do you want. If the budget is not important to you and you want the latest and most updated once, buy your laptop from Qatar. If the budget is an issue and you are not looking for the latest specifications for a laptop, then buy it from the Philipines.

The equation goes like that from what he told me:

Less money, less good specification [get it from Philippines].

Little more money, more good configuration [get it from Qatar].

He told me that the market here in Qatar [Especially IT Market]get updated here more frequently than there in the Philippines. My advice to buy it from here, but if you are planning to buy it from there make sure to get along with the laptop the 'International Warranty' so they can fix your laptop here with no problems while it is under warranty. Go for HP while their prices are good and they got a good support here in Doha. Other brands got no good support or proper customer service centers. If Dell or Toshiba [by the way don't get near Toshiba or Acer] service center will take 3 weeks to fix your laptop, HP would not take more than a week.

Wish you the best and welcome to Dohaaaa Qataaar :)

Salamat

Hi!!

First of all I don't recommend ACER to anyone, I don't know but the performance is not that good. ACER was until a short period of time part of different companies. They become what we call ACER recently compared to other giant companies.

If you still want to buy the ACER Laptop, make sure to buy [International Warranty]. If you don't have this one here, they would be sorry to tell you to bring or you would be paying for every service you require.

I prefer HP, it is a descent and very good laptop compared to other laptops. The performance and prices are good and cheaper compared to the others.

Dell is a very good one, but everyone knows that Dell customer support or service center is simply bad.

MAC, is like the guys here are saying: When you get MAC, you can't go back. I've installed MAC OSX Tiger on my laptop [The version that works also on PC] and I was like, ... wow so how about it running on a real MAC laptop?

The prices:

It is in the end up to you and up to what are you going to use your laptop for. It can be for gaming, programming or just surfing the net and do some Ms Office work.

I can't cover everything here, but that was a general idea.

Hi, I'm an MIS Manager from a construction company who have purchased several brands of laptops...including ACER. Yes there is a repair center here & they do accept the Acer's Interational Warranty. Problem is, minor repairs will usually take like 2-3 weeks. If major parts needs replacement, well you'll miss your laptop for a month or so!

I suggest you buy a Dell or HP instead since their service centers here have good logistics channels. This allows them to repair/replace laptops & parts in a weeks time.

Cheers!
