Why is the cost of housing in Qatar is really high?

Would anyone know why these residential building owners decide to inflate accommodation prices?

I feel that it is for the benefit of the locals. The Govt. has allowed landlords who are mostly qataris to increase the rents. As a result the companies have to give more allowances and in turn the higher amount goes to the qataris itself. As a result they also bcum rich. Thats vot da govt wants to make them rich day by day and to see that da money goes in da country itself.

Hope i've not offended anyone.

One supply > demand, we may see some change in the trend, small change maybe but but once there are plenty of house to choose, those broker will start to panick.

@mila, I think you need to read up on what monopoly means :P

The cost of housing isn't due to any ONE reason.

Here are a few:

1) Inflation

2) Sub-letting

3) Greedy Landlords

4) High Demand

i agree orangkedah...at least tax in other countries, some of the money goes into social services to benefit the community, or road projects, here it goes into the rich pockets

I call it "tax"... and who says this is a tax-free country?  The other "taxable" income comes from traffic fines.

This is what i'm aiming for... i want to have your opinion guys, because the rents are extremely high in Doha.  Don't you think this could affect us all a lot in terms of our net salary.

i hope someone could change this and adjust the rents.

its these brokers who have created a havock in the market ...inflated the prices. a qatari would not demand so much and would give away his villa for 10000-12000 Qr and in turn the agent makes good business out of it by leasing out to 5-6 families . finally its the end users we who pay up. there should be a law ceiling the rates of houses just like vegetables and groceries.

there are these middle class brokers who take villas from owners and then rent them for a higher price. suppose i get a 4 bedroom villa for 10000.

i then partition it into 4 homes and then buy 4000 from each.

middlemen and real estate brokers should be blamed for this

in the start inflation started coz of demand and supply........qatar govt. demolished complete 3 highly populated areas near to corniche for betification purposes....so people gave as much high prices to get homes.

not all land owners hike the prices..these r brokers who hiked all these prices.
