To go to Petra:

Need to reach Jordan 1st :-) By plane or By Car

By Plane about 2:30 hours to Amman

By Car you'll need about 30 Hours drivng through S.A till Amman.

From Amman to Petra:

Best option is to go to The Jet transportation company in Al Abdily, the have daily trips tp Petra, they can manage for you the Hotel and entrance fee as they have several packages and the give the best price ( this is from my experiance )[ any cab in amman will take you there-be careful, they are the best to rip you off, so make sure he starts the meter].

This might be the best time to go as the weather is just right

Have fun in all casse

i suggest you have a look at the lonely planet web site or buy the book, web site is brilliant, for any type of information you need in any country, depending on your resources you can even stay at hostals over in Petra. Memorable place for sure, worth the trip for sure.Diana

We went to Petra, at that time we did not know. We did 4 hrs drover from Amman, were thinking to do the walkabout and drive back. We did not know that the place is huge ... You can buy 1, 2 or 3 day passes.

I would suggest if you want to make the most of your visit, you should stay 1 night over there. Movenpick have a hotel just outside Petra entrance and it is walking distance to the Petra site itself.
