Hi Everyone,

I am about to relocate to Doha in January and I would like some input to whether I should lease or purchase a vehicle. As of right now I will be working there for a year and longer assumming I like it there.

If anyone can give me a price range that buying and/or leasing a vehicle costs that would be great! Also, car insurance costs please! It would be a great help!!!

Thank you so much!

The "Shark" newspaper is sold in streets and shops and everywhere,it's one of the top selling official papers here in Qatar.

Warranty is extended to the second hand user and is still valid i beleive.

Payments are like anywhere else in the world, the loger you install the more you pay as a sum but the less you pay per installment.

Of course cash is the master...you get the best deals then.

Hi dentist,

Is this "Shark" Newspaper sold on the streets or in shops? What about warranty, when you buy a used car from a dealer? What about payment? Helps cash paying to keep the price low?

Auto market here in Doha like most places in the world vary according to what you're looking for.

Used cars in Doha is a very good market for Expats especially that many Qataries here just ex-change their "last year" cars for the "Brand new" ones of the next new year.

In general I don't recommend leasing a car if you are willing to stay longer than 2 years, you can just buy it then re-sell it.

Japanese cars here in Qatar are just like most Gulf countries, considered top selling cars...basically because of their high AC efficiency,it gets too hot here in the summer and usually the Japanese cars are the ones that can hang in.

Toyota is the most selling vehicle here, the Camry'06 would range somewhere between Qr.70,000 up till Qr.90,000 ($1=Qr3.65)

Toyota Colrolla, full option 2006 model would be around Qr.62,000

Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6L would be around Qr.55,000

4*4 SUVs would range also according to the size and model

Toyota Land Cruiser G standard would start at Qr90,000 VXR starting at Qr.180,000

Toyota Prado starting at Qr.120,000

Mitsubishi Pajero around Qr.95,000

You can better check the Shark newspaper on Sundays and Wednesdays they have this Car ads that would help you a lot.

Good luck with your search

Quite simply it really depends on your remuneration…perhaps you will be given a vehicle; perhaps your salary is in sufficient to cover the cost of leasing/buying…etc.

You can purchase vehicles by loan over 6-months or up to 6-years, with interest rates starting from as little as 2.5%.

Second-hand vehicles, with very little on the clock can be bought very reasonably!

Compulsory third party insurance costs about $85.00. Fully comprehensive depends upon the size of the engine and the age of your vehicle. For a new V8 4x4 expect to pay in excess $1,400.00.
