Should I accept or not a 5000 qar offer

newbie_qatar
By newbie_qatar

I am a Filipino Civil Engineer with 16 years working experience back home. I was offered 5000 qar with free accommodation and transportation service. Is it Ok if I have a wife and 2 kids back home? i have to be able to send them at least 2500 qar / month so that leaves me with also 2500 / month to spend...

if it is 75% higher on your current earnings and your first time to work abroad then accept the offer but, make sure that after your 2 years contract they will give you a release and NOC. (Just considered this offer as your stepping stone)

Oh come on man... make a derision. Do you want the money or not?

I suggest if currently ur income is lower than this then u should accept this offer. I all depends on ur current situation. There is a chance you can grow later if this is a good progressing organization.

I think your visa is not an Engineer visa, may be its a secretary visa.

You know that you are an engineer, but here everything on your profession mentioned on the Visa...... :)

The offer is very low, Don't accept !

the question is.. is this your first time to work abroad? if so, maybe that is the reason why your prospect employer only gives you that much... 5,000 qar for 16 yrs experience... if you have been working as ofw for at least 5 yrs then you are in a good position to bargain your salary...

If by comparing what you get back home and what you will be getting here is an increment of 50% than go for it. It's always better than nothing, so to speak..gud luck

newbie_qatar, its better to let the offer go. It truly is an 'insult' to your years of experience. Just be glad that you unlike the 1000's of expats coming into the country actually bothered to check if the offer was worth the paper it was printed on and in doing so may have saved yourself and your family.

Secondly, every company that chooses to employ expats is required by law to bear visa charges, paid vacation as per the contract inclusive of to and fro air fare.

QAR 5000 is really hard to believe, could it be USD?

I'm still about to receive the job description and conditions of my employment. Initial info says its a 2 year contract with option to terminate anytime and change sponsorship. They will pay for my visa, job offer and airfare.

For info, I'm a Licensed CE and a newly aspiring contractor of residential houses. I sent them my CV and it felt really like an insult to my experience and degree (according to nishantvshah).

on your salary being increased over time....

They might promise it to you, but there is a slim chance you'll get it.

I can't count the number of unqualified Egyptians who trump up their credentials and lie about their education. It reflects poorly on all the legitimate Egyptians who worked hard to get where they are.

I only mentioned it because I wasn't sure if the OP was a degreed engineer with real credentials, because that would explain the low offer if he was not.

for it my friend. 5k is like an insult to your experience and degree. With 16 years of experience i wouldn't have budged for less than 20k excluding allowances.

Companies like the one that made you that offer should be blacklisted for exploiting the sponsorship system.

Hi newbie,

If there is one person who could answer that question, is no other than you! Try to evaluate yourself, how good you are, what kind of experience did you have, what kind of life style you are having and you would like to have. Remember: Happiness comes not from having too much, but from wise use of what have… Good luck.

if they offered you QAR 5000 you can bey your accommodation will be in a labor camp sharing a room with 15 others in bunk beds and a toilet with 50 others!

With 15 years of experience you should be offered at least 10,000 as basic and 5000 as accommodation allowance. After a while you will find that your accommodation is unbearable and you'd eventually opt for some sharing accommodation (bed space?) lightening your pockets by at least QR 750-1000. Food: A decent meal cost at least QR 25.

Do the math!

You'd end up taking a credit card to meet expenses that you will never be able to pay for, so that you can send QR 2500 home. With you being unable to pay the bank, you would eventually be blocked by immigration from exiting the country and end up in jail.

Its Very low for a 16 yr experianced person.

I have 4 and a half years of experience and i Get 6000 with all facilities except foods and this is my 1st gulf experiance

ex.ex.expat

And I assume you mean a professionally qualified engineer, not like these Egyptians who call themselves engineers when they work at a hardware store selling cement. ;)

If so, and with 16 years experience I would expect an offer to lowball at 12-14k.

What kind of company is it?! The offer seems ridiculously low!

By anonymous• 20 Jan 2011 17:16

Well, for me I will take the opportunities and try. This is only a starting salary, it will raise depend on your performance. Anyway, take my suggestion if you don't have experience in the gulf then take it as of now for experienced.

By KHATTAK• 20 Jan 2011 17:08
KHATTAK

With 16 years experience, having a family of three?.... NOT AT ALL.

Okie...you can easily survive in QR 2500/month as accomodation would be taken care of by the company...but even then, the salary offer is very low.
