Dear forum users,

I would like some advice on an offer made to me as a health care scientist.

Monthly Housing Allowance = QR 11,000 per month

Additional benefits-
Relocation Allowance (Based on you and your wife/children) = QR 16,500/ £3,470.04
Furniture Allowance = QR 30,000/ £5,409.52 (spread over 4 years so you will be entitled to £1,352.38 per year)
End of service Gratuity (1 month salary for each year of service) = QR 21,908/ £3,952.33. This will be paid at the end of the contract.
Airfare Allowance
Insurance Benefits- Health, Dental, Life
Annual leave- 30 days + public holidays

Also offered is private schooling for upto 4 children.

Seems like a great offer to me but would appreciate any advice.

Kind regards,

I gather that the accommodation allowance is somewhat low. In terms of basic salary, is this something to negotiate, or is it easier to achieve gains in transport/ housing allowances?

I'm looking to get my daughter into Doha college (new campus), but am unsure what areas to live in to ensure relatively ease of travel to work.

Any suggestions/comments?

It's ... OK. As a PhD with experience, I wouldn't be dancing for joy. The housing is low and I'm surprised they aren't offering accomodations. If you are unemployed, it's great. But remember that there is no financial security network, i.e., unemployment, worker's comp, retirement. No guarantee of continued employment. And there is NO guarantee that your kids will get into the school of your choice. Ouch, I just saw that your transportation if included in your basic. Hmmmm...

Good offer IMHO. See if you can earn the same back home after you gross it up for tax. Do not add the school fees if schools are free in your country. If you can then don't come due to the massive difference between a dry country like Qatar and a country like yours. In addition, your social life will be lot different here, coz it's kind of boring here over the weekends. Good luck to you.
