Racist or Flirty

Hello Qlers..

I just wanna share what my flatmate and i experienced last night. I have been here for a week now, a newbie in doha and it was my first time to see/experienced this thing.
Me and my flatmate went to this store last night because we've heard that they are having some ramadan promos. So after work we went to that store. I wanted to purchase this digicam but i wanted to know first about the product. The saleslady(same nationality, unfortunately) who was assigned there is standing next to the product, so i approached her, i even spoke to her on our own language. I ask her about the digicam i wanted to buy. Then she said "cant you read the product details here, you have two eyes and i bet you can read." Seriously, does she know anything about customer service?? So i just said okay and turn my back.. Then, an american guy, i think hes on 30's ask the same things i asked that girl.. To my surprise.. Geez.. She didnt give him the same answers she told me. She even show the product to him, and even removed it from the box and she even showed him the other colors to choose from..

Seriously... i mean.. are all saleslady in Qatar are like her?

Hehe..no pain, no gain..thats what that saleslady must be thinking. Selling is one, hooking for a life partner is another and afterall thats what life is. The next time try a handsome saleman. Surely he will explains the product up to your bedroom.

Were you on the same situation I could have done something she will never forgot.

i usually don't approach salesladies when checking out electronics. i think they don't really know much about gadgets and the male salespeople usually know better in terms of specs etc. i don't mean to sound like i have gender bias but they are not as educated about tech stuff as you probably are. aside from the fact that salesmen are nicer to ladies, hehe. that saleslady probably doesn't know anything at all and tried to hide it by snapping at you but jumped at the chance to flirt with a white guy.

haven't had that experience since coming here but if that happened to me, i would have made an impromptu speech for the whole store to hear about how some people can go so low when it comes to men. i'd talk so much she'd be totally humiliated in front of her colleagues and that white guy she's struggling to impress.

i found that some salespeople here lack training with regard to the products they sell. i have low iq when it comes to cosmetics so i usually have to ask salesladies about which one would go with my skin tone etc. some of them here can't answer me properly. what i do is i usually ask the gay guy, if one is available. i simply switch to semi-bekimon mode and we're instant best friends. and then i'll be receiving expert advice ^_^

about the lack of service for the electronics dept of LULUs. Rather loudly in fact. By the way, I am a blode, white American and the service personel were young men (don't know or care about their nationality.) They are simply not taught anything about customer service here. The manager wanted me to name names-probably to fine or fire people. I kept trying to explain that it was management's fault for not providing proper training to their sales people. They just don't get it.

By astroiza• 7 Sep 2010 17:55

Unfortunately she really told me i have two eyes and bet i can read.. Why would i make some stories if otherwise.

I was being nice to her.

By anonymous• 7 Sep 2010 17:21

Damn! I'm nice to girls, but if she is this rude what I can say is that I'm the customer so I will make sure that she will know that I should be right.

With these attitude it makes me feel sick, why are you a sales person interacting with other people if you don't like being asked? Just go back home if you don't want to work here!

Puff,

Frustrating,,

Cheers. =)

there was a indian supervisor in city center who was shouting at other filipina sales lady so to test him i personally went to him to inquire about a product and unfortunately he was even rude to me but i shouted at him back and said "its ur job to explain the people about the product " and gave him an angry look so he went back to normal.

general rule of thumb, men should always go to saleswomen and ladies always to salesmen.

One of them threw the burger tray at me at McD once...They dont have salesmanship at all and most of my friends had the same experience.Acually we are now of the view that they are replusive to our skin or dress.

LOL on the facial discrimination.

I was also shunned at 51 east thinking i can't buy a pair of shoes but I did and the saleslady's jaw dropped because she doesn't know I can afford those since i'm just wearing tattered jeans and a shirt. :)

So, when you walk into a store here, do you pull out the cash immediately before asking questions to the sales staff? I haven't thought to try that but I have been appalled by the customer service here...

rEzyz: do you mean that the customer needs to flash the cash before buying something? Or do you mean that the saleslady needs to show money to the customer?

By anonymous• 7 Sep 2010 15:39

Brit actually I wrote to the customer service center of the manufacturer to let them know the customer service their agents are providing here. I doubt whether anything happened in reality but I received like 10 emails from them apologising for their local agent's attitude.

By Ice Maiden• 7 Sep 2010 15:38

astro...it depends on passport, dear.

If you are attired head to toe in branded labels, some will still look down on you. Consider you not "rich" enough or 'worthy" to be given decent service. Thats part of customer service here.

oops i should have said ethnicity.

Yes... They think Asians can't afford to buy stuff. Pretty ironic because they themselves are Asians.. Went to buy a mobile, got no attention from any of the sales staff while 5 of them were showing one mobile to an Arab.
