PSD Needs Immediate Overhaul of School Admin

warriorparent2
By warriorparent2

PSD administrators are again proving their incapacities and ineffectiveness in carrying out their duties and responsibilities as so many AVOIDABLE problems turned out to be UNMANAGABLE.

PSD is an institution and should be managed by well educated, efficient, effective, pro-active administrators. It looks like that the administrators don't possess these qualifications.

It is now the proper time that we parents should bring out all our voices together and stop all their excuses and their money-making projects. I am tired of all these LCD Projectors, Computer Units solicitations and all other related solicitations. I wonder if the computer donated by parents or were raised through PTA projects EVAPORATED at the end of the school year for they always end up doing that. And the worse thing is the never-ending tickets .... tsk ... tsk.. tsk.... DepEd order strongly stipulates against selling of tickets in school.... PSD maybe do not know this.

Here are the following persons who should be replaced:

u know it is so sad to read about all these exchange of thoughts you have guys....

we are all filipinos.. but u know... instead of helping each other.. we are the ones destroying each others reputation.. all these are so mean to anybody.. especially if other nationalities are reading about this... aren't you even known manners in the forum? i wonder how could you guys come up with all these opinions.

anyway.. to the one who posted that the school needs an overhaul.. then go to the the ministry of educations here and complain.. or else go to the school and look for the principal or any boards of trustee they got there and tell them straightforward.. not that you have to shout it in a forum.. .. what satisfaction you can achieve when you know other people's opinion? could they solve your queries?

u know guys.. to those parents who have their children enrolled in that school and keeps whining about the school's standards... their incapability.. their extra curricular activities.. and the product they are selling..why you have to complain here? and why u still sending your kids there.. once you enrolled your kids there means you trust the school and every single people (teachers, principals etc) there....

and the teachers are not working as charity there.. they have needs and family like each of us.. so better be cautious to every topic you open.. and be specific.. and be sure what you said are true.. an apology is totally stupid to do once you already said the words...

and just an fyi... i am not a parent..but i am a ql reader for almost a year and have an old account... but i am concerned with these controversy.. especially when people tend to forgot their professionalism just to say something in the forum..

chill guys.. go to that school request for a meeting and shout your opinions in person concerned.. this way you can prove that you are really concerned with your complains etc... such forums in the website is totally a stupid idea...

People, let's stop talking against a person or an institution. This will just lead to a bigger problem. Remember that we can easily be identified here through our IP address. Writing against a person or an institution is considered as "internet libel" - http://newwebmasters.net/legal-issues/libel-slander-and-the-internet/. We are all Filipinos. Let's support and help each other. If a "kababayan" doesn't know what to do, let's guide him. If he asked for a help, let's extend our hands to him.

Peace!

As per my info from the school, the inspections were over and they were granted by the authorities to operate those buildings that were kept on hold for inspections.

Parents concern, kindly pass the info to other parents on waiting.

(Note: To further confirm the above, you may call PSD 418 1587).

there are PSD parents who are constantly reading on this post too. You said you have a reliable source, so don't make us more confused of the issue here. If I said that my source is the principal himself, then I can guarantee that myself. How about yours? And if I'm not convince with their explanation during the meeting, then what else we could do right now?

And pls., don't mislead us with your statement:

mr./ms. nicdaq25, my ‘friend’ is not the issue here, but the PSD management that is not honest/open/transparent/sincere to parents. Why accept students and tuition fees if already the ministry of education told you the new rooms are not acceptable?

So you can use the students para makiusap sa embassy at concerned Qatar authority to be lenient?...kahit hindi pasado sa standard mga rooms? (kawawa naman mga bata, isinangkalan pa! … tsk, tsk, tsk, ang Pinoy talaga, sinabi na bawal , sige pa rin …).

can you give us one good reason why this 'close friend of yours from PSD admin' was not speaking during the PTA meeting which in fact as you said, all the while he/she knows the truth behind this delay? And if he/she still currently working there in PSD, it means only one thing, he/she still supports the principal and the school itself.

I am a parent with close friend in PSD admin. I got reliable info that the new PSD classrooms is not allowed by ministry of education, PERIOD!!! … and I VERIFIED this myself… so to get permit now for this classrooms that are not as per the standard is very remote (...but let us see…). The rule applied to ALL SCHOOL in Qatar not only PSD … and the Admin and BOT known this for a long time but continue to spent money for the new construction … Mr. Acosta: PLS! tell it straight to parents!

Ask ko lang, if PSD don’t open next week, should they refund tuition fees?

Dear PARENTS, don’t just accept what PSD admin tell you; if you have doubts go ask or call the ministry of education. It is that easy!

Some classrooms shut as PSD reopens

Web posted at: 6/23/2009 2:49:52

Source ::: The Peninsula/ BY CHRIS V PANGANIBAN

DOHA: Some 1,000 students of Philippine School Doha (PSD) attended the first day of school in the new academic year yesterday even as classrooms for several grades were closed because they are yet to comply with some building regulations.

Alex Acosta, the PSD principal, said classes for students of the nursery and kindergarten, the preparatory level and of grades one to three and fourth year high school, had started smoothly. “We are grateful to the parents for being considerate enough to understand our situation,” he said.

He expressed optimism the authorities would give the school due consideration, hopefully any day next month, and allow it to start classes for grades five and six and first year to third year of high school after the building regulations were complied with.

Acosta said the consultant and contractor for the school buildings had assured him they would make a representation before the authorities this week.

Thirty-seven classrooms are awaiting approval by the Civil Defence department of the Ministry of Interior on account of requirements like having water sprinklers to deal with any fire, and an evacuation plan.

Acosta said yesterday the school still had enough time to comply with the requirement of the Philippine Department of Education of having at least 200 school days during a school year

He said they would continue classes till April instead of March next year.

He also dismissed complaints from some parents that the school’s teaching standards were declining, particularly in English, math and the sciences. He explained the school had remedial classes for pupils poor in reading, and ability-wise grouping for math, such as Math A for students good in math and Math Plus for those who need improvement. He said the school took pride in being an excellent school for the sciences.

Hi to everyone! Why don't we stop complaining with so many issues about the school? PSD consists of fellow filipinos. Whether we like it or not, we are already a part of this school because of our kids. What a shame on everybody here telling so many negative things about each other!

Why not use your time and effort on how to solve our current problem now? Since there are 2 Philippine Schools here, why should we flock in one school? If you think this is a serious issue, then, let's try PISQ. Anyway, they still welcome enrolees til now. We are sure we are confident that our kids are safe because they are also kabayans who care for their fellow filipinos. Think...Think...Think...

By hellish• 22 Jun 2009 01:00

I don't have a child enrolled in PSD but i happen to listen to some parents and have come to love the school because it's supposed to be a haven for Filipino children and a reflection of our rich culture and community through its acivities.

I miss the school's glorious days several years back when the present Principal was not yet in his post. I always patronise the shows of psd, which were not money-making and of high quality. Sad to say those days are gone and it's a shame that it suffers a lot of turbulence since it has fallen in the wrong hands.

Thanks for your concern Warriorparent...As they always say, everything ends... and so these irregularities that are happening will have their own... let's just hope it won't take long.

By warriorparent2• 21 Jun 2009 23:04

Well said Hellish..:) Just like you, I am a parent too who have been vigilant about how the PSD school administrators run the institution. From the teachers themselves I verified all what I had written here.

I like what you said: "...amassing profit... sacrificing educational standard". This is what I am very much concerned about. I happened to talk to some teachers and they sort of informed me that the BOT Chairman is always a part of the recruiting team interviewing teacher applicants in the Philippines. He is a nurse by profession and what does he know about teaching?

Tsk..tsk... and how about the budget in his going to the Philippines, his expenses in going there, is it taken from the entire budget of the PSD School? Does the Principal, who is supposed to be the very person who knows who should be sent to recruit teachers, know this? I doubt so, because he is NOT even involving the very presence of the HR ADMINISTRATOR to attend the recruiting process. What a shame? What is the HR personnel hired for.... display?

Wake up little Sussie....:)

Hellish, another news pop up around the block that the school opening is again postponed sometime in the first week of July. Well, parents... it is time that our voices be heared. Am I correct? QL will never answer our posted problems with PSD but I strongly believe that this is a very good venue for all the PSD Parents to be informed of what's going on with PSD. I am not painting the school black, I am simply letting the administration know that WE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. They should know that we are not ignorant of what evils they are doing to us.... and that IT DOES NOT NEED A GENIUS TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL.

Thanks Hellish.... you're one of a good citizen too... very observant. I want to talk to you one of these days. I am strong in my plan to overhaul the administration of PSD. God will surely help us....:)

By hellish• 20 Jun 2009 15:25

Throughout my over a decade of stay in Qatar, i was able to witness the history of PSD, and judging from what wrriorparent has said i can say he/she is very much aware of everything, very knowledgeable.

Maybe he/she works in PSD or happens to know some people working in the school. Anyway, he's just saying what he knows and wants and is entitled to his own opinion like everyone else commenting here.

PSD has been the venue of power struggle and power abuse and the teachers and students are the ones suffering from all these rubbish.

It's a not-for-profit, non-stock institution but ironically the admin are devising ways to amass profit through projects that are non-academic, sacrificing standard.

I agree with warriorparent that there should be overhaul in the administration.

How can BOT memberrs who mostly are not educators run a school?

If you ask those directly involved in the school, they can attest that the Principal and the Coordinators have a long history of power abuse, from lost funds to businesses like Edmark/Hala/Paluwagan to unjust sacking of good teachers and so on down the line.

The same problems are going on over and over again because the same people are manning the school.

I am not a parent of any student in PSD, but i was one of the former parents 15 years ago. This issue started eversince, and until then, still going on? Come on guys, why not give the benefit of the doubt? Sometimes people just dont understand, but they keep talking while they keep paying what the school admin asks.

I agree with Hawker, and participating is understanding what is really going on...

You cannot make a difference by criticizing. Do you believe in the power of prayer? Why not pray instead of murmuring. After all we need the school for our kids'future. There is no such perfect school as there is no perfect individual.

By hawker• 16 Jun 2009 16:15

how to overhaul the school admin/BoT?

1. be a member of the school corporation. so you have the right to vote. and the right ask the schools financial status (even their book)

2. nominate a parent that you know will make the necessary changes needed. or better yet you run on this coming election of the schools BoT.

3. encourage other parents to be a member of the corporation and be very active in the school (so that they will be aware of whats happening)

4. vote what you feel and think is the right person during the election of the BoT.

just in my own opinion, the school is transparent as a clear water. the problem i see with other parents (not all) is that they do not get involve in any of the school activities (i.e. voting of schools BoT, PTAEB, attending the HRPTA etc.) again this is just my opinion.

I think they read everything about PSD here in QL, no need to print. I'm not a spokeperson of PSD but I can be loyal:).

paki_mo: yes, things in Pinas also happens anywhere (where there are Filipinos). The mentality that we had I guess will haunt us anywhere we go around the globe. ButI believed we can still make a difference. In our country, we exercised too much freedom of speech that leads some of us astray with the real truth, but if stand corrected then I guess that's where diplomacy takes effect.

we tend to make mistakes sometimes. But as for your concern with the PSD and the coffee, maybe they have some reasons and they know their rights too. What I know, they don't sell it to the students. What I know, the coffee is herbal and the same with DXN (with ginseng).

FYI: I drink different brand (cheap but suits my taste).

Have a good day to you.

if you are not working at PSD hehehehe.... I thought my hunch was correct...:(

Just to answer your question to juano_oh about coffee... there is no problem selling Edmark Coffee as long as you are not doing it inside an educational institution. And the worst is, to make it an official coffee of the teachers. Where is the budget taken from? Edmark Coffee is so expensive as compared to other brands. It is a clear manipulation of the admin who is also the manager of this Edmark business.

I understand that this problem will not be answered her at QL properly but it will be a very good avenue for all PSD Parents to be aware and therefore become pro-active in protecting our children's right.

We do not want our children to be exposed in any thing like this. Hence, we want it to be stopped.

I have done initial steps at the ministry of trade and commerce about this Edmark business inside PSD run by the administrators using their subordinates (teachers) and the teachers wooing their students and their parents(verified correct too by some parents hehehe_

Nicaq25 better attend to your duties and responsibilities in which you are paid for by the parents of your students, or you will surely be in hot water.
