newcomer asks several tough questions, hopes to find answers
Hi guys, I'm new to QL. Moving to Doha at the end of March 2011. I'm Arabic so I know the culture, but hardly speak the language. I have some questions and I hope you can help:
1. Is riding a bike along the Corniche during the summer unthinkable?
2. I guess I'll need to rent an apartment when I get there. Do you know if there is a part of town, near the industrial area, away from traffic where 2 bedroom apartments are decently priced?
3. What do Westerners do there? Where do they hang out, how do they meet other like minded individuals ?
4. How do I learn about my rights? Any particular blue laws or traditions I should look out for?
That is all for now, Thanks :)
Drinks and live music seems interesting :)
I would like to kno more about the club
and the membership thing u been talking about.
I got here only by last month so help me :)
Summer here in unbearable during daytime, but outdoor activities are plenty after sundown.
Industrial Area is near Muaither,Al Aziziya and al Waab where there are plenty of 2 bed Flats.
Garvey's is a place nearby( in Aziziya) where most westerners wind up with drinks and live music, there's a membership fee though, you'll find out.Hope this piece helps. Welcome to Qatar!
joining GrowQatar? Not sure why you were specific about the industrial area but you will not be hardpressed to find a decent accommodation here in Doha. It will help if you share your housing budget range. QLrs will then be able to give you a general idea about residential locations, etc.
The summer has to be experienced :)
Doha is no Chicago but it is what it is. Come with tons of patience, be prepared for not so stellar internet speed (it should improve eventually), tv programming is generally junk (OSN should save the day as it has a decent-good english line-up), cost of living is increasing by the day but if you are single and have a decent pay, you will do just fine.
Good luck and welcome to Q.
