Mosques in Doha
By ikamrankhan •
Salaam,
I'll be stopping over in Doha for 1 day and was wondering if someone could recommend some mosques which I should visit please?
Would prefer mosques which are close to Jabr Bin Mohamed Street as my hotel is there. Please bare in mind I have never visited Doha before.
Also anyone recommend some must see Islamic sites in Doha?
Jazzakallah khair
Thanks for all your responses! Didn't realise Qatar was such a young country, amazing how far it has come in such a short space of time.
In terms of shopping, any recommendations for the best place to go for Islamic clothes?

I think they have recently finished building the biggest mosque in Qatar. And I think its one of the biggest in the region too. The name of the mosque is "State Mosque of Qatar" or in arabic its called "Jamah Doulah". I dont know the name of that area exactly but its near corniche, westbay or markhiya.
Good Luck
I agree. Historical sites are a rarity in Doha itself (much too young), although there are some interesting spots within a couple of hours drive--a bit out of your way and not the easiest to access. The Museum of Islamic Art is by far the best Islamic cultural site in Doha. It is world class and centrally located. The opening hours are somewhat odd, so check before you visit.

I do agree with ex.ex.expat in terms of historical Masjids...
But many Masjids here are wonderful pieces of architecture, visit some, if you have time :P
Visit Qatar Islamic Museum.
Hi,
I would suggest you to pay a visit to the Museum of Islamic Art Doha-Qatar and the Cultural village 'Katara'

Sorry mate, but there are no "historical" mosques of any importance in Qatar like you have in Egypt, Syria, Iran, Saudi, Jerusalem, or Turkey. And I have no idea what kind of "Islamic sites" you are referring to. This is a very new country with 90+% of it built in the last 20 years.
You could, however, go to the Museum of Islamic Art on the Corniche. It is really exceptional.
