IP Subnet Guidance

By Want-IT

I have 2 separate departments, one is admin & other is finance. I have windows XP bases systems. Total users from both departments are 18. I got Wimax line for internet from Q-tel.

I am using switch directly connected with Q-Tel device and LAN through switch for all 18 numbers of users PCs. I am about to use class C addressing scheme and want to make 2 subnets, use for each department separately. Please guide me which subnet best suits & how to implement.

I have no Cisco router, I have only Q-tel DSL wimax device & 16 ports switch in my network.

Thanking your for comments & suggestion.

gilolear is right. only if you have a need to seperate your network should you go for 2 subnets. without a router it is not possible for all clients to get net connection if you are on class c subnet and have 2 vlan's on your switch.

why do you need to separate your network? 18 users will not affect your network performance . having separate network will only give you another problem...imagine that all users are connected only to 1 router and 1 switch. if you separate the two depts..they cannot see each other.and file and printer sharing for all PCs will not work as well as internet connection for one subnet. except if you will use special router like Cisco to route your network A to network B inorder to see each other.
