Honestly why so many suv's in Doha?

Why does every one want a 4X4 offroader in Qatar. I mean whats the point?

SUV's only guzzle more gas and cause a lot of congestion.
Why cant people go for little classy hatchbacks or luxury saloons for the same money you pay for a big 4X4!

If you own a 4x4 just think!! When was the time you actually went off road!
Just as I taught! NEVER! The only reason you bought the SUV is coz you think bigger is better! NO ITS NOT

True offroades are the Ghetto Nissan Safaris and old land cruisers you see around. Not big Escalades, Prados and Hummers!

Honesly there are way more classier cars you can buy for the same money you fay for a new 4X4

consider a little VW golf GTI ,a Mini Cooper S or even a BMW 1 series all theres are small cars that can fit 5 people comfortably. They are extremely classy and are cheaper than the everyday landcruiser that you drive to work (ALONE coz your wife probably has another SUV)

Honestly, I dont get why you bother buying a big gas guzzling, congesting creating SUV when you could have luxury sedans for the same money!!!

If everybody in this country would just brighten up and buy smaller cars. Traffic would be a lot less in this county !!

DONT YOU THINK SO!

Suv's r too much in the city, and it irritates more in congested and rush areas. what i think that big cars like cruisers, Nissan petrol, jeeps, ford suv's, hummur, GMC trucks are seems to be a HIGH LIVING STANDARD not a NEED.

Some ppl said in their posts that these suv's r used for deserts or far away areas. so it means 70 to 80 % ppl go to such areas, is it right?;)

also i saw several times that some ppl having big cars used to make short cuts by crossing footpaths or make their own way for Uturn without any concern that there could be any pedestrian. how can be they care about? coz they r more worried about their leg-comfort rather than pedestrian legs:)

i dont think that bigger cars r safer than small ones. we can see lot of road accidents either there is a big car or a small, the person driving the car have to face some or big losses. very nice comments from MagicDragon:)

finally i should end it here by saying that off road vehicles should not be use "MOSTLY" inside the city until it is a matter of "NEED".

...............i really dont understand why the heck are some guys worried about fuel..........itz jzt 0.70QR per litre here............even cheaper then water...........n if u want to buy 4x4 and worried about fuel...............go for Toyota Fortuner 2.7 or Toyota Prado GX......both 4 cylinders.........and its Toyota...........so dnt worry abt the fuel efficiency..............and lolxx at the guy who asked the question....sir!! can u plz tell me how a sedan car helps in reducing traffic??.........n for ur information..........the overall lenght of a normal sedan car for example Camry is equal to that of Prado...........so i dnt think sedan cars will help in traffic matter...........my vote goez for 4x4.........

how long are you in thins country? you should know that here most of the people are jealous about their friend car, this country is full of rich person that they don't care about a small car or simple car, they just need to show themselves. Plus there is another category of person, not that rich but coming from a country not so far, famous for their attitude to spend money for show that they are always more cool then you, and they do not care about the war in their country. For conclusion, most of the SUV are useless but here is like a truman show, it's not important who u are, it's important which car u have!

I got my Prado after having a very bad experience in Semisma Beach. We were on a weekend trip to Al-Khore to see air show and while returning we though we will go for a small adventure off road in my Elantra (Sedan). Guess what, my beloved car got stuck in the MUD close to the beach. For those who dont know semisma beach, remember one this its not SAND beach its actually MUD beach.

After speanding 3 hours hand digging the mud with no luck, finally we saw some passer by luckly it was COP who came to help us, in less than 30 minutes we had 3 Vechiles facing in oppoist directions and all STUCK in the MUD trying to help each other.

That was the day, when I almost lost my wife. As the roap trying to pull the stuck Vechile broke and just passed about my wifes head touch her hair. one centemeter below, it would have opened her head. When I say road, its 6-7Centemeter in diameter, so you can imagine.

If you are off roader or not, allways be prepared. No one here knows, when you are on road and when you are off road...

You are really funny people: it is known and accepted by experts: sedans are safer! And many of you still quote SUVs as being "safer".

Hey Mr.QATAR2007...

I m really amazed to c ur 2nd point...

Wht did u mean by...

2- As there are many rudders here and there, you can escape from speed rudder by big cars rather than small cars

For example, if you drive small car for 100 km/h the same speed you can get for only 70 km/h with your big cars. Therefore, you can be safe from speed rudders

According to numerous crash tests: SUVs are not as safe as sedans! (Higher center of gravity means higher risk of roll-over).

if you owned a smaller type car where i lived (beverly hills 6) then going in through the back/front (not sure which entrance it is) its nothing but dirt road and small pot holes. you'd bottom out. we need our Pajero.

plus, as everyone else is saying. desert.

If no try Al-Khoor or Wakrah to Mesaieed road, u will know why peoples(not qatari) wit SUV.

If u with sedan this very problem.

so the answer is defence.

Its all about the big thing..

The Bigger the better, Small cars are too crampy for leg room and comfort. If i sit and drive a small VW Golf the person sitting behind would not have any leg space.

I would prefer a 4X4 coz you have more leg room, more head space and at times drive those places off road when stuck in a traffic jam esp in Industrial Area. And also by the way 4X4 is more better here during rainy season you can drive over the flooded streets with just no pain.. cant risk that on a small car.

* men just love big cars ^_^

Its a very debate-able topic. I agree that there are too many unnecessary SUV's in Qatar.

Personally I bought my Nissan Patrol because I do a lot of offroading, and also for towing my Quad bikes that I use on weekends.

You also must remeber that most SUV's can sit upwards of 7 people, which is more than a sedan or other car. For example, the Toyota Prado may not be a very good off road car, but it sits 8 people, the same with the GMC Suburban, except it seats 9.

Also, many people beleive that they are safer in an SUV, which is true most of the time. But this is only because they feel unsafe with the other SUV's on the road, so it's a vicious cycle really!
