Considering moving from UK to Doha
Hi All
Please can I request some advice, I have been offered a position working for
a British Construction firm in Doha. Here's a little bit of information about
myself and my family and the package offered, is this a good package?? and how
much can I expect to save (if any) from this every month.
About us -
2 Adults and 2 children (6 year old girl and 10 year old boy)
Package Offered -
- Job - Communications & Interface Officer (involves working with eDMS,
CAD, 3DS Max, HTML5, CSS3, CS5/6, Unix Dev, PHP, SQL) - Salary 25,500 QAR
- Accommodation allowance.
- Transportation allowance.
- 22 working days annual leave (based on 5 day working week).
- Medical and life insurance cover.
- Company gratuity scheme.
- Discretionary bonus scheme.
- Flight allowance to point of origin.
A few questions -
- Is the Salary offered decent?
- How much Accomodation Allowance should I expect?
- How much Transportation Allowance should I expect?
very good package you can save some money as they said school quit expensive apart from that you able to save some money each month I moved from manchester a year ago loving it here.
salary is ok, you need 12-15K for accomodation and 3k for transport.
Schooling for the 10 year old would be around 65K for the younger one maybe half of that.
Check the website of the american school of doha and look for the tuition fees as a guidance.
A (decent) compound villa will cost you at least QAR 12,500 per month.
You will need two cars as public transport almost non-exisiting
Your basis salary seems at the lower end.
Family life in doha is pretty dull and the working environment is quite different to what you are used to; f,e, an exit permit is required from your employer every time you want to leave the country (even if it is a pure private weekend trip to Dubai f.e.).
Thanks Angelinaballerina - How much would you suggest I put aside for education per month?
The education for a good school will be a hell of a lot more than that per term for 2 children!!!
Thanks Blackburn and Marycatherine for your answers! ;-)
Here's a few answers to some of your questions marycatherine -
- Education is NOT included, have researched and this will cost me approx 5000QAR for both the kids per month
- Flights are twice a year for the whole family
- Accomodation - I am considering a 3 bed villa in Al Waab (or similar area) (What is Al Dafna like?)
- Medical insurance is Private
Thanks in advance
The package doesn't mention education. Schools are expensive (and hard to get into) here. They have long waiting lists for the better schools. Did I mention the better schools are expensive?
Is the ticket annual? Is it just for your or for the family. Good packages offer tickets for everyone every year.
Accomodation? What type of standard of living are you looking for? Apartment, villa, what kind of amenities? More importantly, where will your children be going to school and where is your office? Commuting here is horrible to somewhat bearable depending on where you live and where you need to get to at certain times of day.
Is it private medical and insurance? Better packages offer these.
You need to do a lot more research on what you and your family need to be comfortable (according to your standards).
Take the Job..
Package looks Descent.
