Calling Karwa management!

dpatrick
By dpatrick

Is Karwa management doing anything at all to the increasingly rotten service provided by many of their taxi drivers?

Several times last week, I encountered drivers telling me to pay QR 20 for a trip that usually costs only RO 12. They then refused to take me when I insisted that they used the meter instead. Interestingly enough, they all said that their meter was not working, which was obviously a lie.

I'm aware that these drivers are not paid enough by Karwa and they all want more money (who doesn't?) for their families back home. Which is why I usually add a few rials more to the fare when the driver is really friendly and does his job well.

What Karwa management may not be aware of is that many of their drivers are bent on cheating them to the point of being insolent and disrespectful to their customers. This doesn't reflect well on their organization as a whole and could badly reflect on Qatar in general, especially when visitors/tourists are the ones victimized by these drivers.

Hey guys, I happened to have a conversation with a Karwa driver this morning. He said that he has to rent out the car at QAR 265 for 10 hours from Karwa. Petrol and maintainance is Karwa's responsibility. Hence, he starts making money only from QAR 266. Looking at this cost, I am not suprised that the drivers are looking at other ways to make money. Maybe Karwa needs to rationalise rentals to the drivers too.

I am not on the driver's side. He has no business to overcharge or not switch on the meter.

Anyway, 3 more companies are starting business soon (one in already operational)

Hope the taxis are better and service better too..

I have the same scenario when it was 9:00pm suoq najada from bin omran cost 15QAR. the driver told its already night so there will be a differential. I told to use the meter so if the cost will be 15 then ill just add more. But the driver refused. he told it will be 30QAR.its absurd.i don't have time to report this issue because there is no action.

Im getting tired of this.

Karwa has multiple issues!

The idiot drivers don't know how to drive,

they over speed and flash people,

they cut in lanes without giving indicators,

Mowasalat never has any taxis available when you need them,

Even if Karwa drivers crash into your cars the police puts the blame on u,

Karwa buses enter the service lanes without indicators,

The drivers are uncivilized, I saw a few pick their nose,

A few times they didnt even know where a certain location was and the idiots refused to use their GPS....

and the list goes on, the things they do makes u wanna hate them from the bottom of ur heart!

black and from africa - I have already seen black people driving here from islands near india - and not every african is black as you may know it....he even told perhaps that he was from kenya or nigeria

the rest of the story is that it is a sad thing that even a karwa"boss" feels it is ok to get into the taxi without the approval of the customer ...

the other sad thing is the foul language that some people allow themselves here

sounds like another day in Qatar

By alma wad• 7 May 2012 16:31
alma wad

the other day as I was coming home by taxi the driver took another person into the car ... without asking me ... another man ...I told him that I am not ready to take the ride this way and I want to get out .. his answer was " You don't understand ? This is my boss"

Your boss -not mine .. stupid .. I am the customer and I decide if you can take anyone ... it was difficult to make him stop and as I left without paying anything ( as he did not take me on my destination) he was sending his curses on me ....

soon after another taxi came and stopped for me - it was a black driver from Africa and he had an Indian lady customer - she was lovely and felt sorry for me walking in the heat ... we had a nice chat and the driver was polite ...

the drivers are poor or not ... there are not enough taxis and some drivers see that the customers are exposed to the sun and they feel they are the ones who dictate ... many times when I take a taxi in doha I feel that the driver is doing a favor by taking me

what country in the world do you have to book 2 days in advance other than this stupid country, man they are a pathetic service, thank goodness for the FOX limo service and illegal drivers, catering for what the public want

Aside of all this, I belive KARWA offers a poor and ridiculous service, every time i call asking for a cab they always tell me they are booked for the coming 2 or days. When I need a reliable drive I use Fox Limousine, it is slightly more costly thant Karwa but really reliable and really honest. I would highly suggest FOX Limousine as they have non-stincky and expereinced drivers and new car fleet.

dpatrick - Think about this - Karwa Management doesn't want to do anything about the situation because they want to keep exploiting the helpless drivers by paying them peanuts. Drivers are doing what they can to make both ends meet. We the customers have to bear the consequences of someone else's greed.

I do not use Karwa but I have heard stories about their employment status.

Just for the information of everyone. There is a tariff in the taxi meter 0 and 1. The 0 is for night or outside doha rate which costs more. Taxi drivers usually turn the meter on this tariff in the day time. or mess with the meter to run on this tariff.

By mekameki• 6 May 2012 09:24

Yeah, I agree with this issue. Karwa management should be aware of this one. Yet, some of the drivers have bad smell... THAT affect the smell inside the taxi. They should tell those drivers to take bath, shave, and use deodorant more often. Or, I will give deodorants for free if they can't afford....

always insist for an official receit when riding a karwa..its the best way to trace the drivers, instances for forgot valuables...

dpatrick: Been there done that. Like Azaliana rightly pointed out nothing will change.

These are some of the most ridiculously under-paid slaves in Doha. The Company charges them exorbitant crazy rates around 300 or so a day towards car's rent.

And then they have to pay part of their daily in-come to their slave masters at the company
