average income

Can someone tell me what is considered a decent income in Doha? My family and I are thinking of relocating to Doha and wanting to know if what the company offering is considered a good income? I know this is a very broad question but we just need a starting point ie what is considered an averange income and what is considered a high income earner? For example, in Australia, for a family of 4 if you earn $100,000 AUD per year that's ok and probably can get by living in an average suburb but probably no private schooling for kids. But if you earn $170-250,000 AUD per year, that will probaby afford you a nice home and private schooling for your kids.
Thanks!

I have gone thru ur question and some of the answers as well...as much as keeping in line with the comments posted here...pls bear in mind what Amnesia has to offer u a piece of advice...simply fantastic Amnesia...

All the figures put down by Kellys...in USD...is good to calculate...but pls remember...it is who u r that wud be earning a salary as per your education, experience, and qualification...in Australia i was earnin bout 20$/hr working at Petrol Station, does that mean the guy working at a Petrol station wud be getting paid bout 60QR /hr, o hell no mate...no way...his total monthly salary wud be bout 600QR/mnth././(i m not jokin mate)...so thats the point...

Things as much lucrative they might sound to u...its not so easy to convert 250K$ per year into bout 750K QR per year and only take that offer which shows the money...

This place surely pays very good salaries...but as mentioned the only thing u wud want to keep in mind is the Private coms mostly dont offer u packages covering schools, and all that crap...max is they allow u housing and transport with the basic...

So try to keep in mind...get the housing taken care of...and then neg for a good and high basic salary if and only if they dont provide u school fees coverage and all stuff...

So happy moving...welcome on board to Qatar...

Always remember dude...u will get high salaries since u r an Australian which is unfortunate to see discrimination of salaries based on the place u come from...so dont u worry u r coming from the right place...

God Bless...Take care...

Hey champ...there is a big waiting list at the schools..keep in mind...

I have to stress this as there are TOO many members that seem to think that don't weigh everything into consideration.

1) compare it to your OWN region.

For example, if you are getting paid 1,000 QR in Australia and have the chance to get 90,000 QR in Qatar, will you turn the job down if you discover other's get 100,000 QR?

2) You have to look at the cost of living (I've started a thread called 'Cost of Living' All you need to know.)

3) Do not compare yourself to locals in some cases. Locals will usually get slightly a bit more. It's to encourage regional education.

4) Don't always trust people who say "Hold out for more". yes it's good advice in some cases, but as my father always taught me "The deserving receive their rewards, the greedy end up with nothing".

I hope my advice can help you!

Sorry for not being more precise.

Utilities I have estimated togoether with cable and internet. also mobile phone. Mind you some factors here are variable and you can spend like 2000$ if you cannot control yourself.

all the followig figures are monthly:

land line: 13$ (no extra charges per call)

Mobile: subscription 15$ monthly (per minute charge 8.5 cents)

elec & water average monthly 200$

cable (depending on the plan but something between 50 to 100$ monthly)

personally I am not using cable. Am having satellite dish and decoder and only receiving free to air tv and radio channels.

ADSL(internet 512M) monthly charge 55$.

Sprots club is per person annually.

Regards

Thanks for this KellysHeroes!

Can you please let me know if your estimate of utilities, does that include internet, cable etc. Or you are just thinking water, electricity, phone?

I assume the sports club is per person monthly?

Thanks.

Mate, if you want to come out here to live, push for the same salary that you get back at home,

+accomodation (including utilities)

+vehicle (if you can)

+all schooling paid for kids up to 18

+flights home for entire family (up to 18years old) at least once a year

+no tax

+10%

Unfortunately I dont quite get that deal.

For some people the financial viability of being out here is marginal, if you look at your expenses and standard of living that you will be having.

My son 6 yrs old in DESS cost 7.500 QR per term. I heard compass charging USD 12.000 a year.

turtle ... a word of advice, when you decided to come here... make sure schooling and housing are fully cover by company. Don't accept just a certain allowance for housing or certain percentage of school fee. This way at least 2 biggest cost living in Qatar taken care of by the company.
