Almost there
Well everybody, i'm almost ready to make a new life in Qatar (with the Qatar Foundation), just need to complete my medical & hand my notice in here in the UK.
Both myself & my girlfriend are very excited & if im honest a little nervous. But it's a challenge & an adventure we can't let pass us bye.
So!! i hope to arrive sometime in March & start looking for accommodation & fun things to do.
Can anyone give advise on the following:
Trusted agents/landlords for rental accommodation in Doha
Things to do, i like playing football, a bit of golf, going to the gym & the cimema. Also, i am a bit of a fasion victim, does anyone know if you can buy designer clothing etc easily?
Meeting up with any English expats, or anyone who is friendly to be honest.
See you all soon,
Dean. (from London (Surrey) England)
P.S. if there isn't already, who would be interested in setting up a football (soccer) team????
Commercial Bank
Super 7,
Which bank do you recommend?
By the way HSBC isn't really a UK bank. It trades on that basis but there are absolutely no advantages to you by being with them. For example you are not entitled to transfer money between your UK HSBC account and a Qatari one (except by telex transfer as you would from any other bank) as they are not really related to one another.
HSBC Qatar's service is notoriously bad here so you are better off banking local
Deano,
The flight costs to Bahrian & Dubai is about USD 125.
Regards,
Ayman
Deano,
You can only drive on a UK passport for a week, in which then you have to obtain a temporary drivers license until you get your residents visa. Once you get that, you can then get your full license.
Cheers,
AusM
I leave tips in bars & restaurants.
There's HSBC in Qatar.
Thank you very much for your information Safwany.
I shall email you very soon & let you know what my budget is for accomodation rental.
Sorry people......so many questions to ask, HOPE YOU DON'T MIND.
When out in bars & restaurants, is it customary to tip?
Does a UK driving licence entitle me to drive immediatly?
Who knows of any UK banks in Doha?
Also guys, what are flight costs like to places such as Bahrian & Dubai.
Dear Deano,
Happy New Year and warm welcome to Qatar.
Accomodation: I work as a real estate agent and I will be glad to help you to find what you need but you have to know the renting rates here are so high, you can email me at [email protected], just let me know what kind of accomodation do you need and your budget.
Golf: There is a golf club here that I think you could join.
Gym: There there are different Gyms but you may have a Gym is you are planning to live in a compound.
Cinema: There are few Cinemas here but I think the best one is in the City Center.
Football: I like to play it myself but I didn't play from a very long time (I am not that professional) I think because you can't play here most of the year because of the hot and humid weather, tell me if you are planning to make a team.
Fashion: I think it is better for you to buy all what you need from UK cause there is a lake of fashion here in most the places, but you can try some of the malls like Landmark, City Center, The Center, The Mall.
Friendship: It is my pleasure (I am Egyptian).
Welcome to Qatar,
Ayman
