Accomodation costs soaring high (again??!!)
Hi,
After recently having a baby, we are now looking to move out from our 1 Bedroom F/F apartment (5000QR Rent). So we started looking for a 2 bedrooms unfurnished house. Seriously... What is going wrong in this country... Last year I could find unfurnished 2 Bedrooms in al Sadd area for 5500 QAR. Now it is 7000 minimum for something decent! Seriously...
Did I miss any sudden salary increments to the whole population or something? Who controls these stuff? Is demand is actually that high for housing?
Anybody suffering from the same thing?
Comments are highly appreciated (being so pissed off right now). Thanks.
I was successfully able to predict the fall and rise in Rent...
and was able to take timely decisions ... :-)
The situation is going to become even worse in the coming months. The population in gonna increase in the coming months becoz of d launch of various World Cup projects. The sad part is that no housing projects are visible for middle income expats.
7,000 is already cheap but to think the house or flat is not furnished and not family friendly place. Now a days 10k up will be the standard price to find decent house. But try to see in Ezdan I hear they have semi furnished but a little far from place you are searching....
Even if the law says your employer has to provide accommodation, a triple shared bedroom in a villa would technically count. (and there are many, many who live like this)
Qatar is a place where the laws of supply and demand are on display. Best to renegotiate the housing allowance when your employment contract is up!
it is still lower than when I came to Qatar on November 28th 2006, right before Asian games. There was no ANY accommodation whatsoever... company was managed to get for me 2-br apartment on Al Nasr St. for.... QAR30,000 a month. :)
Why r u looking in sadd. Its quite expensive.Try looking in other areas.Hope u will find something better.
No it doesn't. What labour law are you reading.
Thanks Mandi for your reply. I tend to think the same.
Actually I am considering this option.
As for your "Question", the employer has to provide you the accomodation / pay for its costs as per the Qatari Labor Law, since you are an "Expat". I hope this enlightens you concerning your "Question". :|
"Who controls this stuff?" This whole country got rich on the system of monopoly enterprise! Price fixing is not a crime in Qatar.
Mandi
Who controls housing prices in your country? Do employers in your country give you a housing allowance?
Maybe you should show these greedy landlords and leave Qatar. That will teach them
