Hi am seeking the help of a bank in Qatar to accomodate some banking business, including loans for education expenses, can anyone recommend a banker/bank who is reliable and not going to rob me with fee's etc.. I am an ex pat Aussie, and have a reliable income, can guarantee my employment future for several years, and have assets albeit they're overseas.

If you have at least the equivelent of US$100,000 in all your accounts worldwide at the bank, HSBC Premier is convenient. No fees and you get service through the Premier desks instead of waiting on line. You can also easily transfer funds to your HSBS accounts overseas. If you have a tme deposit though, HSBC pays almost no interest--try Doha Bank or shope around.

Sorry guys, HSBC sucks. I was in there today for over an hour trying to close my account. Managed to get my money but the account remains open as they were unable to close it for some dumb reason or other.

I moved to Commercial Bank a few months back and wanted to be sure the account worked properly before closing HSBC.

Internet banking works much better than HSBC. SMS for each transaction and NO 3am SMS like HSBC recently!!!

Also 1 QA air mile per 8QR spent on their credit card. Much better than the crappy "blue" air miles HSBC offered.

If you use Commercial be warned that if your company has a bad reputation they will not look at you as an individual and you can forget the loan. (That's why we left) Standard Chartered will give you the loan but I would really suggest another bank because the service is very very very bad. (very)

All the banks are the same. They all work like cows, and yet we the ungreatful human breed are just never happy about anything. I am beginning to understand Man is never happy with anything. If he is happy then for sure he is unhappy about something. Anyway not to deviate from the topic.. I would sugguest

Commercial Bank, they work like Doha Bank, and look like HSBC, they have many branches like Q.I.B, and they have lots of parking like Al Ahli Bank, and they look & have staff that look like Mashreq Bank, and their office furniture is like Al Khaleej Bank, and they follow the same instructions as Q.I.I.B, and they give loans just like IBQ, and give credit Cards like Standard Chartered.. and yet all the banks are the same and all suit the needs of expats in Qatar..

Good Luck

HSBC is best for an expat though not recommended for counter tasks. Dont go to any of their counters. You can do most of your transactions through internet banking so why do you need to go to a counter ? Charges! all banks charge you almost the same in one or the other way....they call it by different sweet names.

All the banks suck in Doha. They work really bank hours and are very unhdelpful. No one knows half the stuff going on there. Doha bank is by far the worst. Commercial is also no good. QIB and IBQ are horribel and so is HSBC. If there is a way to change their attitude do let meknow. They are all worhtless. Hope I was huge help because this is what they are when you go to them

I reommend the Commercial Bank. As an Ex-pat with a decnt salary you should get one of there premium accounts, Sadara wealth management. There service is second to none. No queuing[?] at branches, they come to you. I have colleagues who use HSBC and have lost hours waiting for service at the branch
