No Pregnancy Teacher Story Goes International

The story we discussed here on QL about a school principal refusal to hire pregnant teachers, is now appearing in the world media, unfortunately giving a negative image of Qatar.

Here is the original post on QL http://www.qatarliving.com/node/1388865

Here it is in Jerusalem Post, notice the comments there, please.

I had a problem in the US when I worked when I was pregnant I did not quit, nor was I fired. They told me not to come in anymore, I sued but could only recover the income that I lost. At least there we have a govt. entity the EEOC to deal with the matter. Didn't help me with the stress though. I hope their is someone here to help straighten out the school and the Principal. An embarrassment for Qatar.

Having read and re-read the story , I feel that the Principal is saying two different things, which may have been taken out of context..

"The principal convened a meeting of teachers recently and told those who were married not to get pregnant, saying that could mar their performance."

Which is true...

She said pregnant women should not apply for a job with the school. “I am against recruiting pregnant women as teachers,” she told her shocked audience.

Why recruit an already pregnant teacher ?
