Jobs in Doha

Hello there!

I hope everybody is safe and healthy during these unique times. I am currently looking for a job in Qatar from overseas.

I am a Senior Control Systems Engineer with extensive experience in Automation, Project Management, Manufacturing, and IT Consulting. I have over twenty-five years of experience in Control Systems and Project Management, with 14 of those years coming in the Oil and Gas industry. Some companies I have worked for are Occidental Petroleum and General Motors. I do have work experience in Qatar, although it is not substantial (one year).

My main question is, how difficult would it be to secure a position during the COVID-19 pandemic? I have applied to numerous jobs, but have had no luck as of yet. I would really appreciate any help y'all may offer, as I am looking to secure a position relatively soon.

Thanks for your time!

Hi Raymond,

What I have written is based on actually ground realities. Molten Metal is woman who has been posting a lot of rubbish at QL for the past decade sitting within the four walls of her home. She does not know what takes place outside her house.

R has tried to sugarcoat the whole scenario but ground realities are ground realities. You will realize this should you land here and as soon as the sugar on the pill wears off.

Hi, Raymond,

The pandemic has had an impact on job markets around the world, and Qatar is no exception. However, as anywhere else, sound work experience can help you land on a good job. So I would suggest you kept searching for employment with patience and confidence. We have not been under complete lockdown, and this has helped businesses. The market here is moving, although not like before the pandemic.

There are excellent work environments with people of various religions and nationalities. In fact, diversity is what makes Qatar so interesting! And, as in any other country, you can and up in a team with people you don't necessarily get along. This happens everywhere.

There are three "main" requirements that help in finding job in Qatar. First is the nationality. Second is the religion. Third is your passport.

In the Middle East, if there is a job vacancy in a company and the company is infested with people from the states of Kerala or Andhra Pradesh in India or if the company is controlled by Filipinos, any other nationality will not be able to join that company. Even if one does succeed in finding employment in such companies, the people already working there will make life hell for the new employee taking him to a point where he resigns.

The second factor is your religion. Except the Muslims who are downright stupid, blind and thoughtless, people of other religions support applicants of their own religion to fill in the vacancy. For example, if a HR Manager at a company is unable to find a person of his nationality, he searches for someone from his religion to fill in the gap.

Third is your passport, If you hold a western passport, you stand a great chance of getting a job, whether you have the qualifications and experience for the vacancy or not. Those requirements become immaterial as long as you hold the "desired" passport. Westerners are worshiped in the Middle East.

Having said that, the job situation is not good at present not just in Qatar but in countries all over the world. Covid-19 has had its impact and it will take a bit of time for the job market to return to its original state. So you can just continue to apply and look for that shiny star that may come up in the sky to throw its light on you. Don't be too hopeful though but at the same time, don't give up trying either.

Good luck.
