Strumfita.

With the Asian Games so close, I am surprised that you have time to check your e-mails.

Strumfita, I am afraid it is you who will have to improve both :)

At work you are supposed to work, not mingle with your mails. It is unprofessional behaviour, and in many countries people get fired for doing it. If you are worried about your family, use SMS, after all it is not that expensive. Or better, don't leave your family.

Why should they let you use the internet?? Your not paying the connection fee and also you are paid to work!

I agree with e43 if you want to use the internet go to a internet cafe!!!

I have to say that I have worked in both private and public sector in UK and Australia and have never had a problem using the internet for personal reasons. Providing it is used within certain criteria and common sense. Use outwith core working hours and lunch and no funny stuff, you know what I mean!

In saying that, it is not the god given right of an employee to have, let alone use internet for personal use. The employers must protect themselves.

All you can do is hope that they will deal with each case on its own merit.

Strumfita you said you "WOK IN THE FIRM". I didn't know that one needs internet in the kitchen. Perhaps to download new wok recipes?

BELIEVE ME MY FRIM HAS NO IDEA OF WHAT I TYPE....I AM NOT SHOUTING BUT IT'S EASIRE FOR ME TO WRITE WITH CAPS LOCK.I DON'T KNOW YOU SO AS TO SHOUT YOU.IN QATAR ALSO IF YOU WANNA MAKE A PHONE CALL YOU PAY IT VERY EXPENSIVE SO THERE IS NO NEED FOR SOMEONE TO WORK IN QATAR FOR MONEY AND THGEN SPEND IT FOR PHONE CALLS.

BELIEVE ME THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO REALLY FIND EXPENSIVE YOUR COUNTRY.

THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASK IT FROM THE EMPLOYEES BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO FORBIT IT.AND WE ARE TALKING FOR A JOB THAT GONNA LAST ONLY THREE MONTHS AND THIS HAPPEN TODAY.WHAT WAS THE DIFFERNCE ONE MONTH AGO?THEY WEREN'T AWARE OF ALL THIS BUL...S YOU'R WRITING ME?

First of all it's rude to type in caps. It means you're shouting.

You can use the phone for family emergencies not the internet. That way you are using your own and not company resources.

People are fired for using the internet for personal use. This matter has been to the courts and the judgements have always been in the employer's favor:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,125597-page,1/article.html

"A 2005 survey of 526 businesses and organizations by the ePolicy Institute and the American Management Association found that 76 percent of them monitor the sites that their employees visit, and 65 percent block certain sites. At least 55 percent of them review and retain employees' email, and 36 percent track the content on workers' PCs, their keystrokes, and the time that they spend at the keyboard. Lost productivity is a major concern: Last spring, some companies blocked streaming video during the NCAA men's college basketball tournament. Even so, more than 14 million fans accessed video from the NCAA March Madness on Demand Web site during the first three rounds of the tournament, according to CBS SportsLine; and considering the starting times of the games, many of them likely did so from work."

Whether we like it or not companies are within their right to do this. And if you are allowed to do it don't think they aren't aware of every word you're typing!

Most places I know of in Canada also reprimand anyone using their computer for personal reasons while at work.

SORRY E46M3 BUT I ALSO WOK IN A FIRM IN A EUROPEAN COUNTRY AND NOBODY FORBIDS ME TO CHECK MY EMAILS DURING MY BREAK.I THINK I'AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS THIS RIGHT.

IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO YOUR FAMILY I THINK YOU WANT TO LEARN IT THE TIME THAT HAPPENS EXACTLY.UNLESS YOU ARE SURE SURE THAT EVERYTHING GOES PERFECT AND NOTHING BAD CAN HAPPEN.

It is an internationally-recognized practice that internet access at work should be for work purposes only. This is common in the US and UK among other places.

There are internet cafes where you can make personal communication to your heart's content.
