Couple moving to Qatar on separate visas

Hi,

My husband has been offered a job in Doha for a reputed company with following package.

Basic Salary-7700

Accomodation- 2800

Transport - 1400

Fixed overtime- 2100

Total comes out as 14000, with everything and 11900 without overtime. He will be going on single status and we have been told that he can for sure sponsor me after he has 6 paychecks.

He will be joining as and Architect so I guess that post should not be a problem.

Do you see any issues with the visa process?

Also I will probably have an offer to probably move to qatar same time as him. They have currently offered me a choice in single/family visa with a bit of lower pay for family status. I am inclined to take the single status since it will mean a better pay and my husband already has a sponsor and we have no kids.

Do you think there will be any reason why we will not be able to live together since neither one of us is on another's dependent visa. I presume our ID card will mention spouse name as well as require submitting some form of marriage certification.

Should we expect any issues down the line?

Final question- will his salary alone be able to support us for a modestly (not shoestring) comfortable life?

Thanks, for all the help.

Our passports don't have each other's name but we do have a marriage license. I am looking for a salary of around 16K for myself, so hopefully will have a a decent life and savings as well.

Will let you know what we decide on.

There isn't any provision for a spouse's name in my passport!

Hello,

The package mentioned by you is good enough for a single status Architect. You need to negotiate for a flat after getting family status / family visa. If not, at least demand for more House Rent Allowance (double of single status).

Average salary for an Architect in Qatar will be between 15,000 QARs to 30,000QARs.

I don't think a female employee will be offered family status as per local rule.

Embassy attested marriage certificate and appearance of Spouse's name is must in passports to prove marriage.

Good Luck.

For moving around any kind heart person will be more than happy to drive you around for the initial months untill you settle down ......... here people often call friends / coleagues / neighbours to take them along to the markets / shopping centres / parks ........

Remember when you will visit your hubbies boss / colleagues / neighbourhood public you will have lunch & dinner there only ......... so two weekend days / week 4 foods will be outside ...... then comes your circle of contacts ....... you visit your people for four days dinner on working days ........ there will be various functions to attend like birthdays, promotions & new babies etc ........

Ps, Whatever you do your expenses won't go beyond say 2200 for the room + 300 for net/tv + 900 for food + 500 for general outings = 3900 ....... this is your total outgo ...... now you can count 6300 - 3900 = 2400 .

So in the actual scene you will be saving more ... 7700+2400 = 10100 Rials for sure ..........

Yes, you can. The Doha public transport system is well-managed. The company that manages the Doha public transport is known as "Karwa."The cost of travel is also very low. They run a timely bus schedule to almost all parts of Doha. You will find out more about the system once you land here. QLers will guide should you face any difficulties.

Thanks guys, I am not looking to save 7700 from one person's salary. We like cooking at home and entertaining but going out is a big part of our lifestyle, so is travel.

Can we rely on Doha's public transport to get us to our office/s and around the city. from where we come public transport is the way of life.

It might be better for you to explore family status for yourself - especially if they are offering good accomodation - since this is where a major cost can occur ..

Good Luck!

There is no way you can save 7700 unless you don't eat or go out anywhere......

Please overlook the 7700/month saving part. I don't believe that would be possible.

Here are the answers to some of your queries:

1) The salary offered to your husband along with the accommodation should allow you to manage through. Accommodation in Doha is costly and you may be able to find one around QR 5000 per month.

2) The spouses' name does not appear on Qatar IDs.

3) I believe there should not be a problem if you live together as long as you have a legal, certified marriage certificate but I suggest you have your husband check on this from your country's embassy after he arrives here.
