Dear Sir/Sirs,

I am working in a company as an accountant from last 8 months. My duty time is: 6:30 am to 12:00 noon
2:00 pm to 6:30 pm
That means total 10hrs duty per day.
Is it legal according to Qatari labour law ????
Shold i take any action for my own rights ???

Thank you.
Waiting for best ideas.

LP yes like the local Ladies in our office, if they do show show up they will show up around 9am and then off again at 1pm the latest all in an 8 hours of work day! Now that is a tough job hey!

UK, we all know that the Human Rights are permanently violated in Qatar and sanctioned by the government! But there is no use in comparing to the worse. There will always be some who are in a worse condition. We should compare with the best! And then complain.

the labor law overrides all contracts or agreements between employer employees: even if u signed a 6 days/week at 10 hours daily (60h/week), every hour over the 48 hours per week is extratime and mnust be paid at least 150%: 60-48h= 12hours of overtime that must be paid as 18 normal hours fee.

It depends on the type of businesses that company's are engaged, some trading & contg., companies 9 hrs and some of them are for 8 hrs ( high profile cos ) many are left with 9 and above but they are paid OT. In your case if OT is not paid, its injustice. Do not refer to Q/labor law its totally sponsors decision. If u r particular about your rights, as sandman said be prepared for all.

but if you're working more than 48 hours total per week you should be getting overtime.

By the way, these things have to be specified in the contract. The one you have signed, didn't you?

It is legal if they pay you the over-time.
