How to work from home effectively
If someone had asked us this question three years ago, we would have been oblivious to a work-from-home situation. With all the experiences that the pandemic has given us (or not given us), QL is proud to be one of the companies that have aced the art of working from home. We introduce you to our top methods of working effectively from home!
Get Yourself a Home Office
This may sound like we are recommending you to get yourself an entirely different space but your home office can be as easy as the corner of a dressing room or a certain space in the lounge. When we say a home office, it is equipping yourself with all your needful things around you – from notepads to pens, your charger to your headphones; this is the space that needs to be dedicated for work
Set Ground Rules
We’ve all experienced the downside of working from home, especially if you come from a big family (or have younger kids at home). So while we’re suggesting an office space, we are also suggesting boundaries for your space. If you’ve been lucky to find a space in a different room, you can always discuss beforehand when or how people at home can approach you during work hours. It takes time but this pays off! Children can also be trained and if you’re a household where all adults are working, it's best to divide time and manage a schedule suitable for all.
Maintain Regular Hours
If there’s something that we’ve been preaching since the pandemic started, it's creating that work-life balance. You cannot expect yourself to work like a machine and deliver exceptional work. Where we do understand the need to attend emergency calls, we highly suggest getting your work wrapped up during official office hours. Again, boundaries tend to take time but it's one of the most needful things to do considering we don’t know when the situation will be back to our ‘old normal’
Get Dressed to Impress
One thing that we feel hinders any creative process would be taking dressing up lightly! Sure there are memes all over the internet where people are only half-dressed for meetings but you cannot even imagine the impact of dressing up for work while working at home. A fresh shave/fresh home blowdry with your best fit can lift your mood instantly!
Take a Break
You know how you tend to glance at the TV or take the liberty of actually having breakfast and consider it a luxury? Well, you need to change that. Due to the work environment set at home, we actively tend to overlook taking an actual break. Set an alarm every few hours to take a walk and to take actual 15-20 minutes break in between. As per ritual, adding a lunch break to your schedule will give your mind some rest and come back to the table with a fresh approach! Never underestimate the power of a midday break!
Has some other method worked best for you? Drop us a comment and let us know what’s been making your work-from-home situation a blessing!
