Some of Qatar’s popular Souqs

If you want to experience local tradition and culture, there’s no better place to step into other than the souqs in Qatar.
These traditional Arabian marketplaces offer an array of products at comparatively reasonable prices and what’s more? There’s always some room for price negotiations!
Whether you’re an old-time resident or a visitor in Qatar, the souqs around town are meant to fascinate you with their vivaciousness and charm.
The souqs preserve the traditions of ancient times where traders and merchants would convene to socialize while working toward meeting the needs of the local community.
While there are many types of souqs in Qatar, we’ve featured some of the most popular ones below:
Souq Waqif
One of the most-loved and frequented souqs in Qatar is Souq Waqif located in the heart of Doha city just a stone’s throw away from Doha Corniche.
This is a venue adored by locals, expatriates, and visitors alike for all that it has to offer.
From an exciting range of cuisines to the variety of goods including clothing and footwear for men and women, handicrafts, jewelry, carpets, household décor items, spices, to many other things, this souq is one that you can never fully explore in a day’s visit.
As you make your way through the rustic sandy-brown walls of the clusters of shops in Souq Waqif, you can witness the marketplace buzzing with crowds of different nationalities; a great reflection of Qatar’s diversity.
Souq Waqif also tops the list of places to go to if you’re looking for traditional items and souvenirs.
Souq Al Wakrah
One of the more recently established souqs in Qatar, Souq Al Wakrah takes the traditional feels of Souq Waqif and places them at the Al Wakrah seafront.
Located in Al Wakrah, about 15 to 20 minutes ahead of Doha’s Old Airport Road, this Souq presents a mesmerizing mix of traditional shops, cafes and eateries lodged parallel to the beach.
This is a great place to head out to with friends and family to sit back, enjoy your cuppa coffee or karak (tea) while watching the beauty of the seashore decked with the traditional dhow boats.
Gold Souq
An entire marketplace dedicated to jewelry. This is one of the must-see places for tourists and visitors in Qatar. You’ll find tones of shops selling all kinds of gold jewelry with numerous designs making it hard for you to pick a favorite!
Contrary to its name, this place isn’t all about gold. You can find silver, platinum, and white gold jewelry here as well.
Make your pick from the ready-made items that include imported stuff, as well as Made in Qatar pieces and sets, or have something exquisite made for yourself as per your preferences.
This is the place to go if you’re looking to get that popular necklace with your name in Arabic on it.
Souq Al Asiery
One of the most famous souqs in Doha, Souq Al Asiery is quite a popular choice for those in search of economical finds for items such as perfumes, jewelry, cosmetics, handbags, luggage, ready-made dresses, and fabric.
This Souq is just opposite the Abdullah Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center (more popularly known as Fanar). Unlike Souq Waqif and Souq Al Wakrah, this place has a very standard look of a mini shopping center with shops squeezed in next to each other.
One of the great things about shopping here is the variety of goods you’ll find and more than that the chance you’ll have to bargain!
