Qatar Motor Show 2018 comes to a close after a 5-day run
Anyone with ‘automania’, a condition characterised by an unhealthy obsession with all things automotive, will have visited the Qatar Motor Show 2018 this past week. Anyone who didn’t, don’t panic!
Qatar Living, the official community partner, were there and we took this snap shot video of the stunning array of vehicles on show.
The Qatar Motor Show (QMS), which this year ran from the 17th – 21st October, featured 165 car models - sports, luxury and mid-range - from leading international car makers. 14 new models were unveiled on the first day of the exhibition, including the all new BMW X5 2019, the S65 Maybach 2019 from Mercedes, and the Maxus D90 2019.
Genesis also spoilt visitors with the unveiling of its progressive fuel-cell concept SUV design, which will be launched in 2020 under the model name of GV80. As well as new models, supercars, concept cars and custom cars from style centres and automotive designers were also on display.
Exhibitors included BMW, Chevrolet, Genesis, Harley Davidson, Jaguar Land Rover, Lexus, Maxus, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Toyota and Nissan, to name but a few. The exhibits gave visitors the opportunity to interact with their favourite models and brands, check out the latest innovative technological developments, and experience the feel of the vehicle, if not the throttle or the speed!
The event also hosted stands from various other traders, dealers, and automotive companies and services. Mawater Centre, in co-operation with Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) who organised the event, displayed a host of classic cars and modified cars. Modified cars included, classic cars, drag cars, pick-up trucks and four-wheel drives. The display also treated visitors to a number of virtual automotive games and simulation devices.
This year QMS, hosted at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, ran with the theme of ‘Driving to Innovation’. The show brought the latest automotive trends and technologies to Qatar, with a focus on innovation and sustainability. Indeed, the Minister of Transport and Communications, HE Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, spoke of the links between Government transport policy and the events overriding themes. He spoke of the QMS event and its alignment with Qatar’s efforts to enhance transport innovation and safety; and its commitment to promote clean and sustainable energy, in particular the advances in the use of electric transport.
The Qatar Motor Show 2018, was not only a success in terms of the experience created for visitors, and the resultant platform for international brands and local agents. This year’s automotive innovations and technologies on display, also had discernable ties to Qatar’s wider initiatives and hopes for the future.
Qatar Living also hosted a competition during the event giving visitors the opportunity to win an iPhone XS at the Qatar Living Booth.
