Eid-Al-Adha , also called as the Feast of Sacrifice, is celebrated by Muslims all over the world.

As millions of Muslims around the globe buckle up to celebrate the Eid, here are some facts about the traditions and customs that are generally followed on the day of Eid Al-Adha.

1-Eid Al-Adha, just like Eid Al-Fitr is celebrated by people donning their best clothes and attending the Eid prayers.

At the conclusion of the Eid prayer, the Muslims will embrace and wish one another.

2-Eid-Al-Adha will not be complete without “Qurban” or sacrifice. Although it’s not obligatory on all Muslims, most offer a sacrifice to gain the pleasure of Allah the Almighty.

The sacrifice is done in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) who was about to sacrifice his son, Ismael. But, Allah the Almighty stopped him midway and commanded him to sacrifice a sheep instead.

When a person observes Qurban on the day of Eid-Al-Adha, the meat of the sacrifice is duly shared among the relatives, neighbours and the poor.

3-Another tradition that some people observe on the day of Eid Al-Adha is, visiting the burial sites of the loved ones they’ve lost.

4-Giving charity has been stressed repeatedly in Islam. Hence, on the day of the Eid, people tend to involve in a lot of charity.

Even the meat of one’s sacrifice should be shared with the poor and the needy.

5-Eid Al-Adha celebrations always begin only after the pilgrims of Hajj descend from the mount Arafath in Mecca. (Photo source)

The above are just a few of the traditions of Eid-Al-Adha. What are the customs that you follow on this day?
